Game shots are NOT game shots if there is no defense. The drills without defense make you comfortable but they don’t make you better. Do you want to be comfortable or do you want to get better at making shots? Yes, we all need a mental boost seeing the ball go in sometimes but in general too much shooting work is done on air

In this drill, we’re working on transition shots and drives. The offense starts at or around the volleyball line, while the defender starts at the elbow. On the pass, the defender can release and close out.

Scoring can change depending on what you want to emphasize, but for this group we used:

3 points — Catch-and-shoot 3
2 points — Dribble into a 3
1 point — Any other score

The biggest emphasis is hunting your shot in transition and recognizing opportunities to get clean 3s before putting the ball on the floor.

If the offensive player does drive, a secondary defender helps over after the first dribble to contest finishes and floaters. This forces the offensive player to attack against game-like help instead of getting uncontested drives to the rim.

Turn the volume up. This is a result of college players coming in to sharpen their competitive edge and push eachother.

Good players, good people, and good chemistry are staples to good runs.

For high school players/parents: in just a few minutes of clips, you'll see screening, cutting, talking, contesting, and guys making the extra pass with quick decisions off the catch. The majority of the half court shpts are created from movement and action, both on and off the ball. And while this only shows makes, there is still a level of physicality and activity defensively that makes possessions valuable on both ends.

It has been great to see this style become the expectation for our runs
