It’s been 9 years today since Elkino was taken from us far too soon. It’s been 9 years since violence stole a father, a brother, a son and a friend. It’s a reality we honestly can’t sugarcoat, and it’s one we continue to struggle with very often. Elkino’s life ended in a moment of senseless violence. This moment results in a tragedy that ripped through the hearts of those who loved him and those who looked up to him.

Honestly, we shouldn’t be here, 9 years later, mourning the loss of a life that had so much more to give. The violence that took Elkino is the same violence that continues to threaten our communities, and it’s up to us to confront it. We can’t sit back and let it happen again. Every young person we mentor, every life we touch through this foundation, is a step towards preventing another tragedy like this.

We miss you, Elkino. We really do. We fight for you, in your name, and we fight for a future where no family has to go through what yours did. A future where violence is no longer the story we tell. We owe it to you, and we owe it to ourselves. End the violence. #LongLiveKino #BelieveInMe53

Today was a bittersweet day for me... Bitter because today is a King I considered my brother, homie, friend, and family who is no longer with us King’s Day, 👑‼️and sweet because of him, the community has been impacted in a greater way I could have never imagined❗️We were able to turn tragedy into triumph, which is a blessing within itself.
