We will be running a badge making workshop for O-week!

Badges have been long used as visual identifiers, worn to showcase solidarity with protest movements, signal one’s identity or affiliation with an organisation, and demonstrate support for a cause. Badges have had their own history at SOAD, as seen during the campaign to save the Art & Music Library.

Come along to learn more and create your own badge to take home- everyone welcome. This workshop is free with all materials provided!

✸ Thursday 19th February, 4-6pm
✸ Location: Shababeek Memorial Gallery (Project Space, across from the School of Art and Design Gallery)

Make a new handmade sketchbook. The inspiration was, I wanted a sketchbook with paper suited for markers.

I used the laser cutter at many local maker space @anumakerspace to precisely cut out the book board for the covers. Then I folded and hand sewed 🧵 the pages. I had this lovely lemon 🍋 print fabric for a while and decided to use it.

So much work went into this print created with @megaloprintstudio . As well as gilding with gold leaf, we blind embossed text and burnt a 3D scanned image onto the paper with the laser cutter at the @anumakerspace .

@clarejacksonart and I worked on this piece across states for two years, learning new techniques as we went. I feel very fortunate to be invited to make an edition with so much skill, care and time afforded to the work. Thank you Clare and the whole Megalo team!

Lastly, thanks to my beautiful mum, Indi Newton, for working on this project with me. Bringing In and Letting Go holds an early conversation between my mum and I about how to dispose of her body when she dies. After a year of family loss, we felt a strong need to have conversations about end-of-life care with our loved ones while they are still healthy. I began this project with the aim to create a sacred record of a conversation, not of any decision, and my mum was eager.

Bringing In and Letting Go is currently on display at the @melbartprintfair at @linden_new_art .
