Maahi tumbled into our lives all at once and quite impossible to ignore. A sprightly young girl with ambition in her eyes and hope in her heart, like a dose of serotonin that simply refused to wear off.

Her debut, Piya Bina was a proper adventure. There was the trepidation of the unknown. There was practice, then more practice, then a little more for good luck.
Friends, old and new, rallied round with cheer and counsel. And then, quite splendidly, we got there.

Today, her debut track stands sturdy at 250K+ streams on @spotifyindia . Yet the affection came from every quarter: @amazonmusicin , @applemusic , @jiosaavn and a generous chorus of publications, with journalists who championed young talent unabashedly.

We heard Maahi’s next release only last evening and it has already struck the title of our favourite.

Thank you for loving Piya Bina just as much as we did : for replaying it, resharing it and adding it into your playlists.

The HYBE event was a well organized cynosure of all things Gen Alpha & Gen Z. Young audiences danced through every track. A queue snaked outside the photo booth. And then came the announcement fans had been waiting for: the Weverse Con Festival India line-up

K-pop’s global ascendancy is hardly news. What stayed with me was quieter. Young fans singing every lyric, dancing with unselfconscious abandon to choreography they already knew by heart. Not spectators. Participants.

K-pop is here to stay. But the real headline is the listener. Gen Alpha & Gen Z have become gloriously, unapologetically open to new music and new artists, wherever they come from.

What a wonderful time to be alive. Keep K-Popping !!

This week’s song for #FridaysAtUniversal takes me right back to the very early 90s and my first band, Orion. This was one of those songs we absolutely loved playing. It reminds me of being young, rehearsing endlessly, discovering music together, and simply enjoying every minute of it.

Here’s the funny part. Back then, we had no idea it was originally a Harry Chapin song. We discovered it through @uglykidjoeofficial Joe, then much later found Harry Chapin’s original, and eventually Cat Stevens’ beautiful interpretation. Considering how much I love catalog music today, it feels like a wonderfully innocent mistake that somehow led us to appreciate the song even more.

So this week we thought we’d give it another whirl. Some songs never really leave you. They simply find their way back at the right time.

For #FridaysAtUniversal this week, we decided to commit a small act of musical violence. “Sanson Ki Mala” is one of those songs we all know, love and have heard in a hundred different ways. Esp with it being one of the main hero songs of our film Mirzapur with @vaibhavpani and @madhur_sharmaofficial version making waves. There have been beautiful reinterpretations, instrumental versions, guitar takes ( the best one being @andreantunesmusic ) But as far as we know, nobody has gone completely mad and made a full blown heavy metal version of it.

So obviously, we had to. Because @ferzad and I , apparently, we only know two ways to reinterpret a classic. Either make it so heartbreakingly slow that everyone needs therapy afterwards, or turn the amps to eleven and metalise the living daylights out of it.

This is our version. Loud, unapologetic, old school Brahma energy, and made entirely with love. Madhur and Vaibhav have already given it the seal of approval, which frankly is all the validation I need and with deep apologies to Nusrat Saab here’s our Friday jam.

So turn it up, share it, scream along with it, and help us add a little more madness to the Mirzapur fever. Here is “Sanson Ki Mala” like you have probably never heard it before. And Please listen to this on headphones or not at all
