Beloved, when I tell you you need to read this and just be entertained (but maybe not if you’re deeply religious/catholic). MMF with mutual pining and HEA, what’s not to love?! I would safely say it’s vegan friendly. If you are a fan of the Priest series, I think you’ll like this.

My 💭s:
I read this a while after my son had read it (for school). I told my son "I really like that the Darkling is not like he seems to others" and my son told me (after I read the book) that when I said that, he turned away and got an evil smile on his face 🤣 iykyk

Alina is a great character but she might trust a bit too easily at times. I was a bit mad at Mal throughout the book. I really like Genya and her camaraderie with Alina. I, like Alina, hope it was a real friendship. Baghra was probably one of my favorite side characters - when she yells, it was just hilarious, especially when she gets after Alina and then her power is really claimed.

I love a good villain but I'm also super mad at the Darkling right now. Oh, and I DO NOT LIKE who we call Rasputin (who is actually the apparate)

My 💭 s:
Beckham is so HOT and COLD! He was so frustrating. He told Reyna, his employee but not in the way she should have been an employee iykyk, NOTHING! I was especially mad when he didn't tell her about the brothel.

Then Reyna 🙄 girl....I get that you want a better way for your brothers and you but THIS was not it. As frustrating as Becks was (this I do like this nickname for him), she was as equally whiny (why won't he drink from me..Ew, don't drink from me, don't touch me)

There were times that I wanted things to go in a different direction. I'm intrigued enough to continue but dang.... These characters need to GET 👏 IT 👏 TOGETHER 👏

My 💭 s:
Suffers from "second child" syndrome. Not a lot happens, some chapters were super boring. Becks is still hot and cold. Reyna is still making bad decisions without thinking of the consequences first.

I knew something would happen to Brian after he had the pleasure of marrying his fiancee. There is a bit of shock at the end with Becks but I don't believe for a second that it was his end. I could be very wrong though.

My 💭 s:
Ok. I'm so glad this is over finally. There were just too many chapters where nothing went on and I was bored. I was hoping for a TON of action. I didn't like that Becks could come back from the dead but Penelope (even though I didn't really like her) couldn't...I just felt the plot hole there was too big. They both didn't get their heads severed which is what truly kills a vampire, but they never explained if it was because of the blood Reyna gave him.

Well, glad that Reyna finally stepped up and stood for something instead of cowering behind Beckham.

✨👋 Meet Me in 5’s Challenge 👋✨

Well, I needed a bit of a Flatlay Friday break so I decided this was the perfect time to give the Meet Me in 5’s challenge a try after @reading_with_leslie tagged me last week! 🥰

I’m sure I’m becoming a broken record when it comes to my favorite books (although there were a few others I really wanted to include too 😅) but it was fun to think of my choices for the other categories!

You might notice a trend that I’m stuck in the 90s/early 2000s 👵🏻 I swear life was just better back then! I mean, I was a kid so I had a LOT less worries, but I just feel like those were fun years. We knew life before cell phones, internet, and social media. I also think tv shows and movies were so much better then too before all of the streaming services started popping up. I can’t remember the last excellent rom com to be in the movies while we had multiple a year back then that are still popular to this day.

As for music, most of my listening time lately is spent on audiobooks, but I have always been a country music fan. I wanted to be Shania so badly when I was young until I realized I was terrified to sing in front of anyone 😅😶 I’m especially loving the resurgence of women topping the charts in country music right now and it’s fun to see my daughters enjoy this genre too 🥰

All of my choices are comfort picks for me. They’re the things that I could read, watch, or listen to over and over again and never get tired of them (even if they’re so cheesy like the Twilight movies 🤣) ❤️ I’ve tagged a few friends to give this a try, but I hope that you’ll make one too even if you weren’t tagged because it’s such a fun way for all of us to connect with each other!

New book review!

The Captive and the First Blood Game

Loved buddy reading this with @apagesheread and @sarahs.bookstack!

A solid second installment to the Blood Type series.

Taken captive by a sadistic vampire because of her rare blood type, Reyna has nothing left except the hope that rescue will come. Without that hope, she’d crumble. Thankfully, help does arrive but the world that Reyna finds herself thrust into after rescue is a dangerous one full of rebellion and betrayal. Lines are drawn, plans are set in motion, and Reyna will be forced to decide just how big a part she is willing to play in a resistance so much bigger than herself.

The buddy read of the Blood Type series continued into book two! While not as good as book one, The Captive and the First Blood Game is a solid continuation of the series. And let’s be honest, I was NOT expecting that ending. I was a little frustrated at what felt like the same problems being repeated over and over. Reyna and Beckham still struggled to communicate and be open with their feelings. Reyna continued to be a little too naive for her own good and Beckham continued to hurt Reyna just to keep her at arm’s length.

However, I really enjoyed getting a good view of the rebellion, the introduction of characters like Jodie, Meghan, and Gabe, and the way Linde was able to completely take me by surprise in the end. I’m still 1000% the leader of the I hate Penelope fan club. I didn’t like her in book one, and I REALLY don’t like her now in book two. The way I want to get revenge for our girl Reyna.

My buddy read friends and I continue to be divided on our enjoyment of the series which honestly just makes the read that much more entertaining. Being able to read with your friends and share differing opinions is one of the greatest joys. We’ve already moved on to book three and I’m looking forward to finishing this series!

📚 My Name in Book Titles 📚

Thank you so much to @becsbooks21x for tagging me in this challenge! Side note but I was really surprised at how few books I have with titles that start with the letter R! 🤯

I decided to make my name stack with books that are on my TBR. As you can see, I have many epic adventures in my future here 😊❤️ Now I just need time to read them all, but with my kids home for the summer, that time will be sparse 😅 I also had to include the awesome personalized TBR jar that my incredibly sweet and talented friend @phoenix_firelight made for me last year! 🥰

The Monster and the Last Blood Match by K.A. Linde

As usual synopsis here in the caption and my thoughts in the pinned comment. This was a buddy read with my besties @apagesheread and @sarahs.bookstack and honestly that made it 1000 times more awesome.

A captivating start to a trilogy I’m very much looking forward to reading.

Reyna Carpenter is out of options. She and her brother’s are dirt poor, barely surviving, and she can’t find a job no matter how hard she tries. She turns to Visage, the only choice she has left, to be able to bring home some income and be more than just another mouth to feed. But she never expected her employment with Visage to turn out quite the way it did. Instead of being a typical blood escort, she’s given the opportunity to join their new permanent program. More money she can send home but it also means living in the home of a single vampire... indefinitely.

Her sponsor is a crotchety loner who barely speaks to her and explains nothing. But there is something about his dark intensity that draws her in. As glimpses of the real Beckham Anderson break through the cracks in his facade, Reyna finds herself wanting more. But still, he keeps her at arms length. Because what Reyna doesn’t know is that she’s the key to his salvation... and his damnation.
