Grazie bellezze! ✨

Settembre

If we could pick one month
to send someone to Sardinia,
it would be this one.

Not July.
Not August.
Settembre.

Here is why.

Fewer tourists.
More island.

The sea is still warm enough
to swim at seven in the evening.
But there are fewer boats out on it now.
The water goes flatter.
You can see all the way down.

The light is softer.
The shadows go long.
The heat has broken enough
that you can walk uphill again.

Climb Sella del Diavolo at four.
Drive up into the Barbagia
without wanting to lie down at noon.
The trips that were too hot two weeks ago
suddenly make sense.

Long hikes in the Supramonte.
A morning in Cabras or Bosa.
A wine tasting at one of the best vineyards,
who happen to be picking right now,
because the vendemmia has started.

Restaurants have tables again.
The best beaches have empty parking.
The famous ones look
almost the way you imagined them.

The island goes back to living
the way it lives the rest of the year.
Markets in the morning.
Neighbours out on the street at night.
Sagre in the villages inland.

And the days are still long.
Long enough for a swim before breakfast,
a proper lunch, a nap in the cool,
and dinner outside with a jumper on hand,
just in case.

There’s an old Dalla song, Cosa sarà.
Three words, asked again and again,
never answered.
Stand at Su Siccu around seven
and look at what the light is doing to the water,
and you’ll be asking the same thing.

This is the month we love most here.
Come find out why.

Buon settembre.

Ode al Poetto

You can spend your whole holiday
looking at Poetto from the sand
and never really see it.

The trick is to turn around.

Get on the water for an evening
and the whole thing rearranges itself.
The beach becomes a thin line of gold
at the base of the city.
The Sella del Diavolo lifts up
dark against the sky.
The lights come on along the shore,
one by one,
and Cagliari looks like somewhere
you have never been.

Three easy ways to do it.

A small sailboat at sunset
with @cagliariseaexperience
or an aperitivo cruise with @aperi_boat
Both of them do the last hour of the day beautifully.

Or, if you want to earn it,
a kayak with @bikappa_asd
out along the base of Sella del Diavolo,
where the water goes still
and you can hear yourself breathe.

Any of them.
All of them, if you have the week for it.

Bring a jumper for the ride back.
Bring nothing you cannot get wet.

The sea always gives you back a different city.

Ask us how, we will help.
