This was a series of events that I had put on last year to bring together creatives, photographers and small business owners in Edmonton. I called it Creator Space. The purpose was to have deeper discussions and better conversations. The total budget was around $200 to pull this off and the cost was greatly reduced because we had support from Strong Coffee Marketing, who graciously supported it us with their space.

The reason I came up with this idea was because I was wanting to bring back that in-person connection that I had developed through @urbanyeg with a small team. urbanyeg was a creative community I started in 2015 and we ran it for 8 years. It was a way for me to support other photographers through sharing their work on IG, education, in person photowalks called “InstaMeets”.

This is what I did, along with my team, for free. For 8 years. Purely out of passion and wanting to give back.

But because there was little financial backing and we did this on volunteers only, there’s some limitations we had for growth that I wished that I was able to offer.

Imagine what urbanyeg could have become if there were partnerships with relevant companies such as Nikon, or photography/video retailers. We could have ran more contests to push skill, provided bigger prizes, hosted events that allowed guests to try the latest gear, and speak to experts from the respective camera brands.

I’m no longer in a position to do this on a volunteer basis because that takes away from working on my photography business, which I support my family with.

The reality is that this all takes time, money, and resources and it takes leadership. To take something like this further really takes partnership from relevant parties. But without that, it’s near impossible for that to happen.

You see in the comments that this is what people want but without the financial backing or resources, it won’t happen.

But I am here and I’ve already had a track record of success in the past 10 years of bringing people together through my leadership. Imagine what I could do with the proper resources in place.

You know how to find me.

We had an amazing time at this past Monday’s Creator Space 2 event! We tried it in a new space and transformed the back office space at @strongcoffeemarketing into a vibe! Thank you to everyone who attended. We had a really great round table discussion with the group and focusing on “Why do you do what you do?” This is an important question because if you’re ever going to achieve something big, your why has to be so HUGE that any setbacks, failures, disappointments, will seem so small in comparison because guess what? In your journey all of those things will happen and your ‘why’ is what will keep you focused on your goals.

Big thanks to the team at @strongcoffeemarketing for hosting our group! They will soon be offering rental space for photography, video, meetings, podcasts in a limited basis so stay tuned for details from them.

Oh, and I’m thinking of hosting a bit bigger creator get together November 28th. Who’s in?
