Queer Wave: Cyprus LGBTQIA+ Film Festival @queerwavecyprus was such a vibe! It helped me deepen my relationship with Cyprus, make new connections, and strengthen existing ones. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to contribute to queer culture in Cyprus and to feel so accepted as someone of Cypriot heritage. I’m excited to return as soon as possible and to keep the conversation going in the meantime.

My research and writing was presented at the inaugural @anthropology.cyprus conference!

Last September, amidst the annual and absurd UN negotiations for the Cyprus problem, I set out to discover how the endless futures we imagine for Cyprus can be enacted in the present. To no surprise, queer sociality had a bold and effective proposition, which formed the basis of my project. Through its ephemerality, queerness could loosen “border” lines with performance, partying, and an embrace of failure generating new affects of possibility time and time again.

Thank you @queerwavecyprus, @queercollectivecy, @kara_karagoza, @yaelnavaro for challenging me gracefully, and all those who showed me that the future is too far to wait for 🤍

🌺 Queer Wave Day II 🌺

Day II began with a powerful conversation with Daraq Crew on Queer Solidarity Across Borders, bringing together the panellists, moderator and audience to exchange ideas, experiences and reflections on what solidarity means, across borders and within our communities.

We then turned to the screen for Barbara Forever, an archive-driven exploration of the life, work and legacy of iconic, pioneering lesbian filmmaker Barbara Hammer.

The evening continued with our first Short Programme: Of Boys and Men, followed by a Q&A with BAFTA-winning poet and writer Dean Atta.

Our final screening took us into the wild, unforgettable world of City of Lost Souls, Rosa von Praunheim’s cult underground trans-punk musical.

And then, we danced.

The screening was followed by our Burger Queens after party, with a performance and 80s music selection by Aphroditios, followed by a DJ set from Emiddio and Morharmy as C’est Demon! We danced the night away.

Another day of films, conversations, encounters, ideas and dancing. Thank you to everyone who made it part of Queer Wave.
