Next up in our introductions to the all-star cast of the final F&F Pizza Session on September 1st: cousins Jim Ormrod and Anthony Pearce, the fourth generation of the family behind Zuppardi’s Apizza in West Haven, Connecticut.

The story starts with Dominic Zuppardi, a bread baker from Maiori, Italy, who opened a bakery in New Haven before moving the business to West Haven in 1934. His son Anthony eventually made pizza the focus. Ninety-plus years later, the choice seems to have paid off. Jim and Anthony grew up in the business — Jim quite literally lived above it — and today they work alongside a whole cast of Zuppardis, Pearces, and Ormrods.

That bread-baking lineage still shows up in every pie. “I see our dough as an Italian bread recipe, not a pizza dough recipe,” Jim told us. The result is a slightly more robust and textured crust than you might expect from New Haven apizza, still baked blazing hot enough to get plenty of char.

Then there are the two Zuppardi’s signatures. The sausage is made in-house from a family recipe, added to the pizza in generous chunks so the fennel-scented pork cooks and renders right into the pie.

And the White Clam? Fresh littlenecks, shucked to order, good olive oil, minimal seasoning, and lemon to finish. Jim prefers his without mozzarella. “Not biased, but it is the best pizza I’ve ever eaten.”

What will Jim and Anthony make when they come to Court Street on September 1st? You’ll have to join us for 9/1 to find out.

On September 1st, we invite you to the blowout that will bring a legendary summer of F&F Pizza Sessions to a close. This lineup means a lot to us.

For one thing, we convinced Dan Pearson of Paris pizza sensation @o.o.b.a.t.z to come to Court Street, even though he just opened up @g.a.g.o.o.t.z in San Sebastian. It’ll be his first time making pizza for a New York audience.

Then there’s the final New Haven classic to join us in the garden this year — the unbelievable Zuppardi’s (@Zupps), established in 1934. Leading the team will be fourth-generation keepers of the flame Jim Ormrod and Anthony Pearce.

The icing on the cake? Fernando Trocca (@ftrocca) and his team of Argentinean aces. Apart from being one of South America’s most acclaimed chefs, Fernando has the awesome Mostrador in Montauk and is one of our dearest friends. For nearly 20 years we’ve been telling people, “Trocca No Joke-a.” This night won’t be one, either.

Get your tickets at the link in bio and then let’s have ourselves party.

The F&F Pizza Sessions are made possible by Blackbird, San Pellegrino, Doordash, and Marra Forni. We are proud to support Slice Out Hunger.

Rounding out our top 3 for Connecticut pizza is Zuppardi’s in West Haven! We love the pie and the cannoli’s there. Don’t crucify me because I said the name of the soda wrong 😝. Just thank me after you try their pie 🍕. #fyp #pizzacapital #pizza #ctpizza #onebite
