Chicago is love letters and hard truths, often in the same breath.

In this final mini-episode from our summer archive series, we’re revisiting five conversations that show both sides: the South Side’s beauty beyond Hyde Park, a Pilsen community that stopped ICE at their doorstep, the origin story of the Chosen Few Picnic, hidden pockets of culture across the city, and one grounding answer for anyone who feels like the problems are too big to fix.

Swipe through, then listen to the full conversations.

“More than 40 years ago, the Center for Neighborhood Technology @cntchicago hosted a rent party to bring people together while raising money for the work. We decided it was time to bring that tradition back.” - Nina Idemudia, Executive Director, CNT

I continue to be in awe of the amazing work @cntchicago does to uplift our communities. Congrats to @aplannerwithapurpose and her amazing team for bringing back this tradition and for a successful event! So honored to capture the moment!

We had an incredible time last month at A Planner with a Purpose Activations in Detroit during the American Planning Association (APA) Conference✨

It felt so good to be in community with others in the industry—planners, developers, civic leaders, and advocates. Thank you @aplannerwithapurpose for centering Black voices and creating an uplifting, vibrant space for celebration and communion🙌🏿

Detroit was raw and real. The passion and perseverance of the people in this city is nothing less but inspiring. I learned and enjoyed so much. So grateful for the hospitality, the new and familiar faces I met. Planning truly has some beautiful souls. Let’s keep on planning for great communities with a purpose.✨

Supporting my linesister and her Urban Planning Activation in our hometown of Detroit MI was the perfect way to finish up the last weekend of April. 🩷💜💛

Sitting in on professional development about financial planning for students and families from the expertise of Dr. Darla Bishop @my_finansis made me want to step it up for my students and families in the work I do. 💰

And then seeing the Queen Tone @queentonepod podcast live and in person with the amazing @tginari as the guest, was truly an unmatched experience. 🎙️ 💜✨💁🏽‍♀️

I’m so blessed that this is what sisterhood looks and feels like for me consistently and genuinely.
