Meet Coach Austin Mayfield!

We’re excited to welcome Austin Mayfield to the Redline Webster team! Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, MI, Austin brings a wealth of experience and a passion for athlete development.

After playing college baseball at Cornerstone University and Grand Valley State University, Austin earned his Bachelor’s in Exercise Science. His journey has taken him through coaching roles at Western Michigan University, Grandville High School, and Youngstown State University, where he served as the head strength coach for multiple sports.

Now in Houston, TX, as the Director of Sports Performance at Velo Vault Sports Performance, Austin specializes in baseball player development and is dedicated to helping our athletes excel. Outside of coaching, he’s a competitive bodybuilder and a die-hard Detroit Lions fan.

Join us in welcoming Coach Austin to the Redline family!

You don’t win by just showing up on show day.

You win by treating your off-season like prep.

You win by stacking good days on top of each other for months or years on end.

Until you have a physique that’s deserving of it.

Winning.

I know I’ve touched on this before, but I think skill acquisition is something that a lot of people are losing out on when it comes to their training. Changing movements frequently doesn’t allow you to get really good at performing a movement. Being better at a movement will allow for greater muscle fiber recruitment, and more recruitment=more gains, which is the #1 goal at the end of the day. This has been my hamstring routine since last October I believe, and I’m still making progress. Find movements that feel good, stick with them, and hammer them until the wheels fall off.

Even if every action, attitude, habit, and intention is perfect, time is still the most important factor.
->
Patience is crucial in the realm of athletics. Consistent efforts over long periods of time yield the greatest results. Coaching serves as a great road map, but if you don’t put gas in the car, you’ll go nowhere fast.
->
Stimulus, recovery, adaptation. Raise the baseline. A training load is placed upon the human, the human practices great lifestyle habits, the human adapts to the plan and the baseline rises along with expectations. The formula is simple. What isn’t simple is stacking those somewhat monotonous efforts over, and over, and over again.
->
“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” -Bruce Lee.

Training during the Holidays:

Are you going to get miles ahead by having 1-2 extra training sessions? Probably not.

Are you going to fall behind in progress if you miss 1-2 training sessions? Highly unlikely.

Are you going to remember time spent with your family over a training session? Absolutely!

Should you feel guilty for training if the opportunity presents itself? Not at all. Even if it’s not a typical training session, going out and doing something like walking is fantastic.

Besides, nothing beats a good sugar cookie pump😁

Happy Holidays🎅🏼

Truthfully, you won’t always feel like showing up. I have my days I’m beyond tired, not there mentally, and just want to call it a day. I could easily half ass my session or skip the gym entirely and go to bed early.

Nothing worth doing will be easy. Do the hard stuff.
