“To mother is a power ever to be / repeating.” Motherhood, frequently seen as a moment when doors close, is figured in Kolbe’s collection as a capacious state where care opens and transforms. A mother is a power, not a script that flattens under terrible legibility.

Apollo among the rings 🫆🤍 very lucky & grateful to have worked with amazing @apollo.chastain whose beautiful poetry & writing in general I have admired from afar for many years now 🤍

I love using family heirlooms in my photos and I feel deeply connected to my family history, which is one of my greatest sources of inspiration. The quilt cover in the background was made by my great grandmother and handed down to me, and it was such a beautiful experience to include it in the photo and talk about kinship, light, and sigils w Apollo 🤍

We are now into our 36th year of the Americans with Disabilities Act. While much is at stake, it is so important to celebrate what “Disability Visibility is,” as a whole community of folks did when disabled people in Chicago made quilt squares as part of honoring the legacy of @disability_visibility.

All 25 of the completed quilt squares made by the participants of GATHER in June 2026 have been safely received at @disabilityculturalcenter as of Friday July 24th, 2026! (I’m particularly proud of myself for getting them sent out, after putting on final touches, and received by the center a full week before the deadline.)

I’m still attempting to find the words of what this event meant to me to come together. I expected nothing less, but was still astonished by the creativity and wonder everyone brought into their pieces for this larger memorial quilt. So, I’ll be working on scheduling a post to show them off at least once a week, since it will likely take awhile for them to be sewn into the full quilt and displayed. I cannot wait to see all of the pieces together 💛

Tagged all the people who I know participated in GATHER, either at the Access Living huge event or in our smaller gathering with @cuerposcolectivo. Song by @domke11y, which I’ve had on repeat since it came out.

Thank you again to all our sponsors @accessliving, an independent living center for people with disabilities; @abilitylab; and the @dcal_saic, a teaching lab housed under the department of art therapy and counseling at SAIC; @rebirthgarments, a small business creating made-to-measure wearables and accessories for all sizes and needs; and @queer.quilting.chi, an ongoing workshop series for quilt-curious queers. This program is partially supported by a grant from @illinoisartscouncil.

Come for the concrete, stay for the land.

The land will invite and mesmerize you, popping out of concrete like Tongva & Chumash magic.

The Juliet Poet's Touch reading @juliet.readings at L.A. River was magical and inspirational.

This was poetics at the edge of the city, on the border of water, running as the river.

Incessant.

Hard-core, down, & dedicated.

Have you thought to yourself, "Hmm. I simply do not have any good candids of me looking cool at a cultural event?"

Recent studies have found that attending a RHINO Poetry reading is a great way to address this issue. Lucky for you, we have just such an event happening tomorrow!

Last week, I graduated from WashU with an MFA!

A culmination of two wonderful years, moving away from home, my country, my family, my friends, to start a new and total life.

None of it would’ve happened without sheer determination and the large love shown to me by friends and strangers alike, the kindest most amazing people on earth!

I am full of gratitude and joy and pride.

Now I’m kind of a big dill, since I got my degree, and I know every fucking thing! 😅
