The best part of sport isn’t always what happens on the field. Sometimes it’s the relationships that are built along the way.

This is what went through my mind as donors, supporters, volunteers, partners, Olympians, and Paralympians came together to raise $913,756 for @righttoplaycan @ the annual Hero’s Gala in TO last week.

I was fortunate to help bring many of these athletes into the conversation through friendships built in sport. What meant the most was how quickly they said yes. It’s a reminder that some of the most meaningful things sport creates aren’t medals, it’s in the connection with new and old friends and a willingness to show up for others.

A huge thank you to my co-host Erica Wiebe, along with Adam van Koeverden, Clara Hughes, and Right To Play CEO Jesse Thompson, whose words helped set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The real magic, though, came from our Ambassador Leaders and Youth Heroes, whose stories reminded us why this work matters. Special shout out to @torontoplasticsurgeryinstitute and family who helped raise more than $110,000 in support 👏🏾.

On a more personal note, felt really good to be back hosting and speaking again. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed while I was an athlete, and the evening was a reminder of how much I value being part of conversations that bring people together. Big shout out to @dougdownscanada , who has played a meaningful role in my public speaking journey over these last few months.

Sport introduced many of us. Right To Play gave us a reason to come together again. 😊

THANK YOU to everyone who joined us at the 11th annual Heroes Gala and supported this special evening. Because of YOUR generosity, passion, and commitment, we raised crucial funds that will help children and youth around the world learn, grow, heal, and thrive through play.
