POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

There are projects you move quickly on, but this isn't one of them.

We're so incredibly grateful to share that the Ohio Arts Council has awarded us $17,183 through their ArtsNEXT program to support our Monument Project.

From the very beginning, we've known this work would require patience. It asks us to sit with difficult histories, to listen more than we speak, and to make sure the people whose stories we're entrusted with feel seen, respected, and represented with care.

Too often, communities are encouraged to move on before they've had the opportunity to remember honestly. We appreciate that the Ohio Arts Council recognizes the importance of projects that preserve lived experience rather than allowing it to disappear into collective erasure. That kind of support says something about the role the arts play in helping communities understand themselves more fully.

Our responsibility now is to be worthy of that trust.

Over the coming months and years, perhaps, we'll continue listening, documenting, and working alongside our neighbors to ensure this project reflects the people and stories that belong here. Doing it well means it won't just become a monument, but it'll become a place where memory, truth, and humanity are held with dignity.

Thank you, Ohio Arts Council, for believing in this work and for making space for projects that ask communities to remember with honesty, compassion, and care.

We are deeply honored.

We’ve been thinking a lot about the hands that shaped us and the ones still carrying those traditions forward.

Blacksmiths, quilters, woodworkers, carvers, basket makers, leather workers, toolmakers, people working with land and natural materials, and others; the folks who learned by watching and doing.

We're having deeper conversations about passing knowledge and skill on to the next generation, and we want to make sure we’re including the folks doing the work.

Who are the makers and tradition-bearers we should be learning from? The elders, the grannies, the papaws...folks new to the craft but excited to learn?

Tag them below or send us a message. We want to connect about what comes next for the region 🤎
