I genuinely hate throwing away working gear. My old Aquael filter wouldn’t sell on “Kleinanzeigen”, so I decided to get creative instead. 💡

I repurposed it into a custom waterfall pump by simply attaching a matching hose to the outflow. Total MacGyver style, and it works like a charm!

⚙️ The Setup:
• Before gluing or fixing anything permanently, I ran a dry test run to check the water flow.
• I tucked both the pump and my heater inside a dedicated technical chamber behind the dragonstones.
• This way, the heater warms the incoming water directly before it enters the main display, keeping all the machinery completely out of sight.
• A custom plexiglass lid on top locks in the warmth and humidity in addition.

After Vermythor moved to his new shallow tank, I just could not let his old glass cube sit empty…

Time for a complete overhaul! ⚒️

Welcome to Dragonstone (he he): A custom nano paludarium featuring two working waterfalls and roughly 25 liters of active swimming space.

🪨Hardscape Choise:
I am using classic Dragonstone. It provides massive surface area for beneficial bacteria and makes it super easy for mosses and climbing plants to anchor themselves.
And dragonstone is basically ph neutral. So it doesn’t harden the water extra. Perfect for betta Splendes.

⚠️ Pro-Tip:
Make sure to wash your Dragonstone extremely thoroughly beforehand to get rid of all trapped clay and dirt. trust me your future self will thank you.

EN: I was on a bit of a hiatus, but I'm slowly finding more energy and time for aquascaping again.

I'm very happy to be among the Top 300 at IAPLC 2026 again and to see so many familiar names on the list. Unfortunately, I can't travel to Japan this year. I'll miss ADA's hospitality and the friends from all over the world. My contest tank for next year is currently in dark start, and this one here is just my holding tank for plants — but I really love it and only top off some water every now and then.

More news coming in the next few days, because an exciting journey is about to begin, and I'll try to take you all along.
