When Renée C. Neblett first set eyes on the town of Kokrobite, she thought it was paradise. The Atlantic Ocean seemed to bow at its pristine beaches, about an hour west of Ghana’s capital of Accra. There were turtles making their way out of the water; mollusks and clams laid out on the rocks. “You had to dodge the crabs on the sand, it was so abundant,” she remembers.

As a Boston native, Neblett “had never been anywhere there wasn't a corner store.” She was equally in awe of the fishing town’s locals, who seemed intimately familiar with every tree, leaf, and root as well as the myriad of ways they could be used. “To be quite frank, I was completely overwhelmed by an intelligence I didn't have,” she says.

Thank you so much to @_msridhar for these amazing Zines outlining the benefits to having our Mug Library at @eatonworkshop ☕️☕️☕️ This Plastic Free July, it’s a great time to remember that over 4 billion single-use plastic lined coffee cups end up in landfills in the U.S. each year. This mug library is a fun way to eliminate that waste in your workplace! #reducewaste #zerowasteindc #muglibrary

Great to partner with Eaton House on this Mug Library initiative to reduce single-use plastic.

Residents and members of Eaton House donated over 50 mugs (!) from home. Now they don’t have to remember to bring one and they can avoid the disposable plastic-lined “paper” cups. Less waste! More fun!

Huge thanks to Mekala for the great explanatory signage and to all the awesome residents and members who participated in the launch!

I could not be more thrilled to be invited back as a 2025 Eaton House resident. Besides Eaton’s wonderful mission-driven ethos to “to uplift the human spirit as we collectively pursue a better world for people and planet,” I also get to hang out with an amazing set of fellow residents. It’s an honor to be among them. Thank you, Pete and Shirin, for everything you do to make Eaton such a special place.

Stay tuned for some exciting projects I’m working on with the Eaton team 😀
