📸 Capturing the Magic: A Huge Thank You! ✨

A massive shout-out to the brilliant @photosbyanni.r and @citymotionco for capturing these incredible memories from our film festival last weekend!

Ever since we started back in 2010, a core part of WIFF’s mission has been to give local creative talent the platform to shine. We believe in providing real-world opportunities for young creatives to sharpen their skills, build their portfolios, and take their employability to the next level behind the lens. 🎞️🚀

Anni R, we are absolutely thrilled with these images—thank you for documenting our final festival so beautifully! 🙌❤️

🔗 Want to see the full gallery? We’ve dropped the link to Anni’s stunning photos right in our Instagram bio over at @E17FilmFestival. Go take a look, relive the day, and make sure to give these talented creators a follow! 👇

From our very first screening at Beyca to a completely packed-out Trades Hall on Sunday —what a journey it has been! 🥹❤️

For 17 years, WIFF has been bringing “Films from around the corner and Films from around the World” straight to E17. Together, we’ve shared over 1,000 stories on the big screen. 🗺️🎥

To every single filmmaker who trusted us with their art, every venue that opened its doors, and every audience member who bought a ticket: thank you for being part of our history. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to watch the next generation take the wheel! 🏎️✨

Share your favourite WIFF memory from over the years in the comments below! 👇

✨ WIFF Trivia 2010 to 2026 ✨

🎬 Films from around the corner, Films from around the world 🌍

The Walthamstow International Film Festival has a massive heart and a brilliant history. As we celebrate our journey, here are a few secrets behind the magic:

🪑 From a furniture shop to the world: Founders Fletch and Liza started the festival back in 2010. Our very first inaugural festival was actually hosted inside a furniture shop in Walthamstow Village!

💪 Powered by passion, not funding: WIFF has never received official funding. Every single year, we deliver a jam-packed programme purely down to the incredible hard work of volunteers, partners, university interns, and local sponsors.

🚇 The Victoria Line connection: Our very first volunteer met Liza in a cab one night after the Victoria Line suspended service before the end of the line! Talk about fate.

🎨 Our longest-serving judge: Artist Barry Bliss has been on board with us since the very beginning in 2010! While the former feature film director can mostly be found behind the easel these days, he still finds time to support our film festival and champion young talent from the borough.

🚀 The ultimate launchpad: Our Emerging Talent panel of young advisors all started out as filmmakers submitting to the festival. They gave back to the creative community by volunteering their time, and they’ve gone on to land incredible storytelling careers at ITV News, the BBC, Arsenal FC, and beyond.

💬 In their own words...
We love our team. Here, Arabella, Adam, Josh, Ryan, and Xaymaca tell us exactly why they chose to dedicate their time to a passion project right on their doorstep in Waltham Forest. 👇

It’s slap bang in the middle of Volunteering Week! 🙌

To celebrate, we caught up with Josh, Xaymaca, Arrabella, Ryan, and Adam to hear all about their favourite moments volunteering for The Walthamstow International Film Festival over the years. 🎬✨

Our founders, Liza and Fletch, simply could not run the festival without the incredible dedication of our volunteers, judging panel, sponsors, and partners. This is a massive thank you to absolutely everyone who has helped us deliver the magic of cinema to the community since 2010! ❤️🍿

We also want to give a huge shout-out to Claudette, Ekaterina, and Natali—our brilliant interns from UCL East BA Media @uclscci who captured these wonderful interviews at our Emerging Talent meeting last week. 🎥📸

Thank you to all the film friends who took this rebellious architectural grad onto their projects.
Such a privilege to film at so many stunning locations — can’t fit them all in here.

Special thanks to @sodaplanetproductions @reel.force @lltdesignslondon @bymegangrace_ and all the art assistants I worked with.

2/1 I’m doing a networking lunch at Ministry — let me know if you’re free, or if there’s another time to catch up.

Still not over Wednesday night. From one crazy idea that I wanted to tell my story and direct a short film that talks about the avoidance of grief to having a real life launch event where sooo many people came and supported and bought merch and had a party and connected like whattttt?!? Is this real? I’ll tell you what was real, the hangovers the next day. Unlike the name of the film aye?!

So far we’ve raised over £2k thank you. You’re supporting indie filmmaking without an expectation of a return, you’re good eggs.

This is why we do this though. Studio/streamers blobs and generative AI cannot recreate community, they cannot recreate a glimpse behind the curtain of what a village it takes to make a film. Stick along for the journey, you’re all invited.

also fyi we’re bringing hashtags back #hangoversarentreal
