Varun Mehta is a transdisciplinary designer from Mumbai, India, with a practice that spans architectural design, identity design, communication design and product design.

Graduating as an architect in 2017 from Mumbai University, his early work focused on how spatial design influences human behavior.

Mehta has worked in key roles at firms such as Studio 823 (Samir Raut, Faizan Khatri), The Busride Design Studio (Zameer and Ayaz Basrai) and Studio Tessera (Sagarika Suri).

In this time, he honed his skills across various crafts such as material studies, architectural research , storytelling through design, up-cycling of construction waste, and sustainable fabrication technologies.
Mehta’s early work exploits have focused on architecture, commercial hospitality projects, residential interiors, co-working spaces, educational spaces as well as web & graphic design.

In 2020, Mehta founded ARC.HV, a non-profit digital platform that unites creatives across disciplines through self-initiated projects, such as Virtual Gods, India’s first virtual art exhibit, and an Open Source Design Library.

In 2022, he completed a Master’s in Computational Design from the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, exploring parametric workflows, machine learning, AI; through design for social impact.Mehta has also been an advocate for skateboarding culture in Mumbai, playing a crucial role in developing skateparks and promoting the social impact of public spaces. He is currently the creative director at Urban Monkey where he focuses on making quality design accessible to the masses while fostering creative industrial design innovation, in India.

_dev.SYS [2018] _Attempt 001

dev.SYS is an experimental study that attempts to map out the co-relations between the anatomy of Latin and Devanagari scripts.

This was acquired by defining a minimal geometric grid system to craft an experimental Multiscript typeface.

This system served as the foundation for creating display fonts in both Devanagari and Latin scripts, sharing similar construction attributes.
The complex glyph set of the Devanagari Script required some level of segregation and organisation,
in order to co-relate it to Latin counterpart.

Intention:
To realise a digital system that assists the conversion of existing Latin Display Typefaces into Devanagari format.

Works from the winners of the Antarya Awards are on public display, followed by a range of thoughtful projects on “adaptive reuse” by a mixed bag on Bangalore’s architectural practices.

We’ve a spotlight on a provocative exhibit which asks How Bangalore becomes an advocate for Bamboo by 2023- and one that gives you an interesting perspective, 400ft from the ground, of us navigating through the chaos of our city.

There’s also a chance to immerse yourself in a full blown VR experience - or voice your thoughts via a tactile installation that speaks of safety in our cities.

Designuru 4.0 also brings to you a new set of “follies”; 15 of the cities designers and festival partners come together to create a delightful experience for you!

All events are at the Rangoli Metro Arts Centre on MG Road.

2. How do we get there?
Metro : Purple Line MG Road ;
Pedestrian entry on two sides, either from the MG Road metro station or Anil Kumble Circle.

Worried about parking your private vehicles? Hassle free parking at 1, Sobha helps if you have deep pockets.

3. Do I have to register?
NO. DESIGNURU IS A FREE FESTIVAL-
And open to everyone! Our daily workshops have limited seats; available strictly on First Come, First Serve Basis.
