A few days in Athens, making the rounds and catching up on exhibitions I’d been wanting to see. So much happening across the city, and always good to reconnect with artists, friends and familiar spaces along the way.

Staying in Athens for July? ⠀
⠀
While the streets slow down for summer, the city's independent galleries are doing the opposite. This month is the best time to step out of the heat and into some of the backstreet spaces that keep the local scene moving.

July in the city usually means finding any excuse to drift from one air-conditioned space to another.

Fortunately, the galleries and museums have given us a few incredible reasons to stay inside this month. ⠀

We’ve put together a quick map of what’s anchoring our conversations right now!

Fieldwork in the archaeology of the night.

At @arch.athens Marc Camille Chaimowicz’s Celebration? Real Life Revisited (1972–2000) revisits his seminal installation, reflecting on nightlife as a space of connection, community, and freedom.

At @melasmartinos David Weiss’s Neocolor presents a series of drawings: nocturnal vignettes of urban life.

Art dissolves into atmosphere, glitter and conversation, blurring the line between installation, everyday life, and the magic of music.

In “Celebration? Real Life Revisited”. A fantastic installation by the brilliant and influential artist Marc Camille Chaimowicz (1946-2024), opening tonight at @arch.athens . Chaimowicz’s pivotal installation, first shown at Ikon Gallery in Birmingham @ikongallery in 1972 , “was a response to the dominant tendencies of late modernism. Particularly its austerity, masculinity and claims to objectivity”.
Great to see this important work by an important artist beautifully and thoughtfully reinstalled here @arch.athens . Alongside printed matter from his archive, one of his wonderful paintings and beautiful ceramics (on the first floor). #artist #marccamillechaimowicz
