Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) was a British philosopher and logician best known for his advocacy of independent thinking and critical examination of authority. He believed that age and tradition are not guarantees of wisdom—that many elders propagate outdated or false beliefs simply because they have always believed them. Russell taught that we must respect the elderly while simultaneously demanding evidence and clarity authority based on age alone is a form of intellectual laziness.

Visitors watch a bright orange sun rise directly out of the water behind the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Thiruvalluvar Statue.
