🌱A landscape that climbs the building 🏢🌳☀️
.
The stepped silhouette of the building, a result of the zoning setbacks, became an opportunity rather than a constraint: the terraces work as shelves for planting, offering users a great mix of sun exposure and fresh, green microclimates. 🌱🌞🍃
🤓☝️💬 In a dense industrial area where there’s little space left for planting at ground level, the greenery simply climbs up the building. Four facades, four faces to work with. Different systems and plant types ensure greenery possibilities in all four directions🌿🏢🌳 The green terraces bring shade, cool the surroundings, and make room for insects and birds. 🐝🦋🐦🍃
The spiral staircase ties all the terraces together, turning the journey through the building into a 'promenade architecturel'. 🌀🌱🚶‍♂️

🌱 Finding ways to photograph the plants within the architectural space, and to understand the building through framings where vegetation becomes the protagonist, was a particularly enjoyable challenge. 🌿

Starting from the premise that spatial and architectural quality are essential to a good workplace, EM2N designed spaces that support an ideal working environment, providing room both for communication and for concentration, work and also have a rest. 🍃☕😃💬

As a part-time architect in this office and a user of these terraces (morning climbing to the workplace, lunch and a coffee break), I must say, we do appreciate (a lot!) this stepped jardin, ever changing plants and blooming bushes.☝️😚🌿🌼😃

Cool down, Oasis at Sight 🌱🌳🏝️🤠
Building an urban microclimate
in a dense industrial district. 🌬️🍃
.
🤓☝️ With the arrival of the summer and good weather, the plants start to flourish, with new branches and leaves, vigorous bushes, and flowers everywhere. 🌱 The good thing about them? 🌿🌼🪻🌺 Apart from bringing lots of colour, the bushes and trees provide shade and together with their moisture, they cool down the atmosphere surrounding them. In a world that's getting hotter and hotter, such a passive cooling system is indeed cool, isn't it? 🌞😎🧃

😌🫧 A retreat where design becomes an architectural meditation 🏔️🍃
📸 Second stop at @whitepodoriginal was the Zen Suite by @montalbaarchitects 🛋️🌿🫧
The dome structure hosts a world within itself: a themed space, which overlooked at the Swiss Alps 😍☝️ How do you like the moments I captured? 📸🙌🤩
And yes: the fire and spa-area made this space veeery cozy 😍☕📖🫧

🤓📝 Perched above Les Cerniers, the suite translates Wu Xing’s five movements of energy — 🪨 earth, 🌊 water, 🪵 wood, 💪 metal, and 🔥fire — into space and material. ✏️📐 Each curve, circle, and junction resonates with rhythm and purpose: the recessed bed at its core, the circular bath overlooking the valley, and the continuity of wood that grounds it all.
🏔️🫧🌲 Raised lightly on a platform to preserve the alpine terrain, the Pod redefines stillness through architecture — minimal, tactile, and deeply conscious of the landscape that shapes it. 🌄🔭
📸🏕️ A weekend that became less about capturing space, and more about feeling it.

🏔️🧭 Weekend in the Swiss Alps, at the Eco-Chalets by @montalbaarchitects 🏘️ ☺️☝️ A weekend surrounded by inspiration, snow, and thoughtful design. 👏😌❄️
🤩📸 Last weekend I had the chance to visit, stay and photograph the @whitepodoriginal Eco-Chalets, designed by Montalba Architects: 21 prefabricated timber volumes quietly resting above Monthey. 🌲🏘️ 🏔️
.
🤓💬 Each chalet is made from locally sourced larch wood, its façade designed to weather with time and blend into the alpine landscape (swipe and zoom in and out on the photographs! 😍☝️📸). Inside, understated materials like OSB and concrete create a tactile dialogue with the outdoors, while large triple-pane windows frame the ever-changing valley light. 🌄
🛋️ More than comfort, Whitepod is a case study in low-impact architecture🌿: powered by nearby hydro turbines 🌊 , warmed by radiant floors (this felt very comfy!☕), and prefabricated to reduce emissions. 🏗️ From concept to construction, every decision respects the environment it inhabits. 🏔️🏘️

Behind the "understated" entrance unfolds a surprisingly generous world: the entrance area ⚱️🎋, a gym 🏋️‍♂️ and a spa 🫧, bathed in daylight through floor-to-ceiling windows. ☀️🏡 With an impressive ceiling height of 3.5 meters 😱🏰, the lower level gathers an almost meditative sense of space and light. 🧘‍♂️🍃 Transparency, tactile materials, and quiet luxury define every zone. A home where craftsmanship meets clarity 📐✏️

Explorer feelin' 🤠😍☝️
Discovering more of the Atriumhaus 📸🏡📖
A house that feels both intimate and open 😌☀️🍃 Daylight flows deep into the interior through courtyards and generous glass surfaces, dissolving boundaries between inside and outside. 🏡📖 Subtle shifts of shadow animate the concrete and textured walls, while private garden niches ensure calm and retreat. The result is a living space that feels larger than it is: bright, fluid, and deeply connected to nature. 🌳🍃🌊🏊‍♂️

A Swim in the Pool 😎☀️🩴🌊
Wanna join? 😍🙌🕶️📖🛋️
🏝️📖🏖️ Last year in Summer I had the opportunity to photograph for @raum_und_wohnen and @skyframe_global the stunning Atriumhaus by @wannerpartner_architekten . 🏡🪴
The House revolves around an Atrium (we will see that in further posts: stay tunned!☝️😍) and faces towards a wide valley situation, where can enjoy the big terraces, cozy reading lounges and a long pool. 🐬🌊🍹📖
🪟 The architects worked closely with the sky-frame windows to create the depicted living room, in order to open an interior space and connect it completelly with the exterior pool. 🏊🏼‍♂️🩳

Life extended 🙌🤩🚂🛤️ Can you see what got added? 🤩 🚝 Subtle transformation of a historic single track viaduct to a high-speed corridor!

On our travel to find the #betonpreis25 , together with @betonsuisse and the jury, we visited this Viaduct in Gümmenen (BE). The engineers explained with close detail the concept behind the intervention: precise calculations and a design of thin concrete plates, placed seamlessly on top of the existing infrastructure, allowed a big improvement of this track! Can you see now the added part? 🔍😃☝️
🏅 This elegant, simple design with minimal invasive concrete use, was awarded a special mention from the jury Congratulations to the whole team involved!

🌉 The renewal and double-track expansion of the historic Saane Viaduct modernizes one of Switzerland’s key railway links while preserving its cultural heritage. Originally part of the Bern–Neuchâtel line upgrade to connect with Europe’s high-speed network, the project allows trains to travel at up to 160 km/h. 🚄💨🍃 A new precast concrete track trough integrates seamlessly with the 120-year-old stone structure, ensuring durability with minimal material use. 🔍 Construction was carefully planned to maintain operations, with only!! a 5-week interruption during the most critical phase. 🏗️🧱 This project stands as a model of sustainable engineering — combining innovation, precision, and respect for history. 😍☝️

🌀 Ascending 🧬
How many spiral-staircase-lovers? 🤍😍
These stunning helix staircases serve as focal points throughout the building. 🧬 The four open staircases connecting the surrounding balconies are a testament to both functionality and aesthetics. The interlaced grid of fluid lines of white plaster is unique in each corner staircase, by artist Renée Levi. 🌀🤍😍☝️

Ever wondered where the Firefighters do their trainings? 🔥🚒
It was a surreal (yet very real and necessary!) assembly of buildings for one single purpose: rescue trainings. 🧑‍🚒🧯 Steep walls and window-sill-silhouettes for climbing practice, evaculation studies with different staircase shapes, as well as the new addition: the flood-case area. 🌊🌊🌊🚒
We had the chance to enter the tower ☝️😍 in our search for the #betonpreis25 with @betonsuisse and the jury! 📸
🌀 How poetic do you find the interior? 😍😍😍

🌊🤍 The Naturgefahrenlabor in Andelfingen is a pioneering training facility designed to simulate realistic flood scenarios. 🌊🚣‍♂️🔭 Its distinctive water tower, formed by 48 concave shells acting like miniature dams, showcases a refined balance between engineering and sustainability. Six prestressed concrete belts contain the immense water pressure and guide forces elegantly through the sculptural form. The system allows the same water to be reused for every training cycle ♻️ , emphasizing resource efficiency and innovation. 🌏 This lab stands as both a testing ground for disaster preparedness and a statement of ecological and structural intelligence. 👏
