Eight years ago, Google removed โ€œDonโ€™t be evilโ€ as its motto. It was the opening of the companies code of conduct.

The employee who proposed the motto said he wanted something that โ€œonce you put it in there, would be hard to take out.โ€

Google faced public criticism over its tracking practices in 2012. Some have speculated that this contributed to the change, although there is no evidence linking the two. In 2015, Googleโ€™s parent company, Alphabet, adopted โ€œDo the right thingโ€ for its own code of conduct. Google kept โ€œDonโ€™t be evilโ€ until 2018.

The PlayStation 2 remains the best selling video game console of all time, with more than 160 million units sold worldwide.

Released in 2000, its design was deliberately severe. A black monolith with hard horizontal lines, a small blue logo and almost nothing else. The console could stand vertically or lie flat, while its rotating PlayStation emblem adjusted to match either position.

The built in DVD player helped place it at the center of the living room, while games like Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill defined the era around it.

Twenty six years later, the PS2 still feels unusually complete. The startup sound, the memory cards, the blue cases, the pressure sensitive controller and the glow of a CRT all belong to a version of gaming that is increasingly difficult to recreate.
