An immersive installation about water, life, and responsibility
Without water, there is no life.
Without Amazonia, there is no global balance.
With AMAZONIEN, artist Marcello Martínez Vega transforms the Renaissance church of Santa Maria della Visitazione into a multi-sensory space of experience. The installation approaches water not as a resource, but as a living principle origin, memory, and a force that connects humanity, nature, and culture.
At its core lies a simple yet urgent awareness: the Amazon is one of the most vital and fragile ecosystems on Earth. Since its encounter with the Western world in the 16th century, it has existed in tension between exploitation and preservation. Today, it stands as both a threatened environment and a place of emerging resistance, protection, and global responsibility.
The installation weaves together visual imagery, sculptural elements, sound, and ritual performance into an immersive environment. Suspended woven pirogues evoke absence and displacement; organic structures created in collaboration with Indigenous communities form a symbolic architecture of resilience and balance. Natural pigments, elemental forms, and archetypal figures such as the jaguar, the turtle, and the pyramid express a worldview in which nature, cosmos, and humanity are inseparably connected.
AMAZONIEN makes water perceptible through its absence. Where water disappears, silence becomes visible.

The church space becomes a place of encounter: between Western and Indigenous cosmologies, between spirituality and ecology, between art and responsibility. Aesthetic experience transforms into a quiet call — not accusatory, but deeply insistent — to recognize our shared connection to life.

Developed over four years in collaboration with artists, artisans, and communities from South America and Europe, AMAZONIEN is both an artistic statement and a gesture of care.
It is not an exhibition about nature.
It is a position.
A reminder that responsibility is a form of love.

While governments sell forests, poison rivers, and sacrifice the future of entire peoples to profit, this installation emerges as an act of visible resistance. It carries the voices of Indigenous communities, the memory of the land, and an undeniable truth: the struggle for the Amazon is the struggle for the balance of our planet.

More than 1,400 kilograms of materials from the rainforest, transported across rivers, roads, and borders, are transformed into forms, symbols, and signs of a reality many would rather not see. Behind every structure stand the hands of artisans, days of hard labor, and the determination of an international team that refuses to remain silent.

This work is not a romantic vision — it is a position.
It speaks of life, of loss, of responsibility, and of the fact that neutrality in times of destruction is not an option.

Whoever supports AMAZONIEN supports more than art.
They support the defense of a living territory.

The Amazon does not need admirers.
It needs allies.#amazonien #artist #ecuador #brasil #bienaledivenezia @labiennale @moiaussiartgallery

AMAZONIEN is in its final stage.
After four years of resistance, work, and commitment, we speak with one collective voice.

We thank our supporters across Germany, Kolombia Ecuador, Brazil, Italy, and Switzerland because without solidarity, this project would not exist.
But gratitude does not silence truth.
We are proud of AMAZONIEN because it refuses to lie.
Because it names what others prefer to hide.
Without water, without a living Amazon, there is no future.
Not for the Global South.
Not for the Global North.
Not for anyone.
What we are facing is not only an ecological collapse.!
It is structural violence.
It is environmental racism against nature and against Indigenous peoples who have protected these territories for millennia.
Their lands are stolen.
Their rivers poisoned.
Their knowledge erased.
All justified by the same empty word: progress.
Let us be clear:
The Amazon is not being destroyed by ignorance.
It is being destroyed by design.
Corporations and financial empires Cargill, Bunge, ADM, JBS, Marfrig, Nestlé, Mondelez, Barry Callebaut, alongside oil and mining giants like Shell, Chevron, PetroAmazonas, Vale, Anglo American, Newmont know exactly what they are doing.
They turn forests into monocultures, rivers into waste, and life into profit.
They grow rich.
Others pay the price.
Indigenous communities.
Small farmers.
Women who defend land, water, and life often with their bodies.
AMAZONIEN is not neutral.
It is a poetic, spiritual, and political act of resistance.!!
A refusal to accept a system where profit is worth more than life.
We demand a different order. One where life is not negotiable.
One where the forest is not a commodity.
One where listening replaces extraction.
Healing will not come from markets or greenwashing.
It will come when we listen again
to the water,
to the wind,
to the forest.
and to the peoples who never forgot how to live with the Earth, not above it.AMAZONIEN a voice that will not be silenced.Because if the forest cannot breathe, humanity will not survive.marcello martínez vega#art #artist #wasser#amazonía #amazonien

The Amazon Project stands as a symbol of resistance and a beacon of hope. It reminds us that change is possible. What is required are courage, determination, and solidarity.
• Raising Awareness: People must understand the connection between their actions (consumption, production, politics) and the destruction of the Amazon.
• Supporting Indigenous Communities: They are the true guardians of the forest. Strengthening their rights, providing them with protection, and amplifying their voices is essential.
• Combating Illegal Practices: The destruction of the Amazon is driven by criminal networks, corruption, and the greed for wealth. This must be countered with international pressure, laws, and enforcement measures.
• Promoting a Culture of Environmental Love: Love is one of the most powerful forces that can move people. It must be anchored in education, art, and culture.#amazzonie #amazonas #amazonien #amazon#nutritions #water #woods #precioswoods #art #workinprogress #vega #vegan #love #venezia #biennaledivenezia

Time is the substance from which I am made. Time is a river which carries me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger that devours me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire that consumes me, but I am the fire.
