Meet @montuno_cubano! Bringing the heat of Cuban music to Saint John! 🇨🇺

We are thrilled to welcome Jorge and Luis Peña, the talented Cuban brothers behind Montuno Cubano, to the 5th Anniversary of the Día de los Muertos Atlantic Canada Festival!

Originally from Santiago de Cuba, the birthplace of traditional Cuban music, Jorge is a singer, composer, and requinto player, while his brother Luis brings his guitar and vocals. Performing together for 25 years as Hermanos Peña (the Peña Brothers), they have shared their music with audiences across Europe and beyond.

Through original songs inspired by family, love, and life in Cuba, their beautiful harmonies and vibrant rhythms celebrate the richness of Cuban musical traditions. ❤️🎶

At Día de los Muertos, we celebrate how music and art connect cultures, honour our roots, and bring communities together. We can’t wait to experience their music with you!

The magic is almost complete! ✨💀 Glow in the dark alebrijes, full of color, light, and community! 🎨🌟

To close this special series, here are the images of our completed pieces! What makes these alebrijes extra magical is that when the lights go down, they truly reveal their spirit, bringing a whole new dimension to their details in the dark! 🌌🖌️✨

We had an incredible time presenting them at the Saint John Arts Centre @sjartscentre on October 16th. But the story isn’t finished yet! Art truly comes to life when it inhabits public spaces and connects with you.

That’s why the final pictures to close this entire series will be YOURS! 📸✨ Come see them live this Saturday, October 24th, at the @diadelosmuertossj at @area506fest Take your photos, enjoy the glow, and become part of this living artwork. Seeing the community interact with these sculptures is the real heart of this project! 💖🇲🇽🇨🇦

A special and heartfelt thank you to the wonderful children and team at (Here We Grow) for bringing their curiosity, enthusiasm, and lovely little hands to this project! Seeing the youngest members of our community dive into the world of Mexican art and help bring these sculptures to life was truly one of the most heartwarming parts of this whole journey. 🎨👧🏻👦🏽✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported us along the way. See you this Saturday at AREA 506 to celebrate life, memory, and community through art! 🧡🙌🏼🇲🇽✨
