POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The first ceremonial rite I was taught was how to put away the dead. Normally this is one of the last rites a person of medicine learns/receives yet it was the ouroboros opening the gate for my path on the red road. My partner at the time had a human skull on his altar his anthropologist grandfather passed down to him. We learned quickly how imbalanced that was and were taught how to put our ancestors away properly, back home to the land, to Creator, with respect and honor; and how to amend that ancestral wrong doing.

Then came the unaliving of a relative. I picked up her spirit which haunted me for weeks, and learned how to tend to the spirit of an individual after they had passed. How to clean myself off from “ghost medicine” and how to protect the essence of life within me when working with the dead.

Three years ago I touched death in my womb when I had my abortion. A decision I had been offered to make, bring in life or tend to death. I chose to tend to death as I wasn’t meant to bear life at that time. It was there, through the allowance of letting both life & death into my being, that my ancestors finally got to touch my physical essence. Giving me codes of information I could have only received through that portal into Mictlan (the underworld).

I first touched death intimately when I attempted to unalive myself at the age of 13. Creator sent me back here knowing there was something They had written for me I hadn’t yet read. Almost 19 years later and I’ve finally translated, and am beginning to understand those written words.

Within my Tonalamatl (birth chart) I carry the essence of Mictlanteotl (the essence of all the dead). My name is Huehuexochitl, the Ancestral Flower. It has been through my intimate walk with death through which I am learning how to tend life. It’s been through walking with the essence of death that I have learned how to listen to, be guided by and tend to my ancestral lineages. Because death lives within life and life is held within all of Creation.

Throughout this journey the plants have been the ones tending and teaching me. Come join me and our plant relatives next month, as we tend to death and life alike.

La Luna recuerda que todo cambia; la Tierra, que todo puede volver a florecer. Bajo su enseñanza transcurren los tiempos: caer no es desaparecer, transformarse no es perderse y renacer es parte del orden de la vida.
