@borgessfitness athletic Performance presents the box jump. Benefits: 🔰Explosive strength and power 🔰Assist in increasing vertical jump 🔰less load stress on joints as it’s focus is a soft landing onto the box vs higher impact landing of squat jumps To perform: ✳️Athlete stands in front of the box about 6-12 inches back (depending on size of athlete) ✳️The feet slightly apart and flat on the ground with arms up. Then push your hips back and swing your arms downward ✳️In one explosive move, swing your arms forward and up, spring up (getting full extension in the hips, knees, & ankles) and land on the box with soft knees on the balls of both feet and then the heels. Hips should be at knee level when landing. ✳️Step back down to the start position, do not jump down. If the box is higher than 18-24 inches (depending on height of athlete) use an additional lower box to step down to. 🛑Common mistakes: ❌Choosing box that’s to high ❇️Fix-start small and progress while proper form is maintained ❌Not dropping down low enough in pre jump ❇️Fix- coach up to push the hips back and sink to a quarter squat position while throwing the arms down (amortization) prior to explosive jump upward. ❌Not allowing for full extension of the hips and knees ❇️Fix- coach up reaching high and getting full extension of the hips, knees, and ankles. Triple extension power. Note: when the athlete is beginning top end jumps, spot from the side with one arm behind and the other ready to provide support to the front if needed. Be careful to not effect their jumping motion. Thanks to @layneridderman , @mackenziefordd , and @riddermanbennett Stay tuned to @borgessfitness Athletic Performance for more tools and tips.
