Fashion has always been a part of our DNA. Here are a few top moments (swipe to the end to see the best backstage manicure 💅) My first pinch-me moment was a feature in Vogue by @liana_ava - seeing my name in print at the highest echelon felt like making it (8 years later I still feel like I’m ’trying to make it’). We were featured more recently as on of 50 designers changing fashion in America. I’m so proud to keep pushing boundaries of what jewelry and ethical businesses can look like! Working with iconic New York designers @31philliplim and @jasonwu to create bold jewelry for the runway pushed me creatively and make the little fashion-obsessed girl in my screw with joy (and then cringe when one of my hoops flew off the model mid-walk)! 2017 was a BIG year. Swipe to the end for my best ever business decision. I was still a 1-woman show, working out of a half of a rental jewelry bench in Brooklyn (my rent was $132.50). I was winging it, still selling under my vintage @marteau.co. My friend @lucaslucasnyc showed me the ropes and held my hand. On a cold January @tenthousandthingsnyc took a chance on me and we opened a shop together on the lower east side (I’m forever thankful to be inspired by these masters)! By February Beyoncé performed in the Grammys in my now iconic Despina cuff. Placements followed quickly on Selena Gomez Solange, Zoe Kravitz and the Lena Dunham’s’ Girls. We had 3 more magazine covers. It was a year of protest- cementing my sense of political purpose in the brand, and we developed our painterly aesthetic with the help of some amazing talent. ABR, as a brand was starting to emerge. But my very best business decision to date was hiring @arielle.routhier. She has been my work wife and stabilizer for nearly a decade and there’s no chance we’d be where we are without her steady hands (which have been ground to the bone in our polishing wheels).
