17 hari telah berlalu sejak Gaung Gumaung berakhir pekan di lereng Merapi. Dikelola bareng 15+ kolektif selama sepekan, Gumaung mengamplifikasi karya, instrumen, arsip, dan ketangkasan musik yang disalurkan ke lebih dari 9 ruang publik di penjuru kota Jogja hingga Sleman.

Dari nongkrong, ketemu orang orang, ketemu orang orang mendengar cerita, mendengar cerita jadi lagu.
Lagu yang punya 'soul'.

SBTQ Tweaking — Eps 10

This time, we’re with Suara Dewandaru at Ruang Dengar, part of the Gaung Rack series at Gaung, in collaboration with Jogja Sonic Index.

For this session, Ruang Dengar is built around a classic listening setup: Pioneer CDJ-2000, Technics SL-1200 MK2 turntable, and a Rane MP2016 mixer.

Through this setup, Suara Dewandaru and Jogja Sonic Index aim to create a different kind of listening experience through their programs during the festival.

Here are 3 essential Indonesian noise albums from the 90's era, picked by @indramenus :

WORLDhate - Wound (1997)
A noise project by Jeff Awardi of Kekal, Wound was released on tape by Jeff's own label, THT Productions. It contains 12 tracks of industrial, noise and ambient.

Mournphagy - Thy Word Abideth (1997)
Formed in 1996 by Levi Sianturi who is also playing bass in Kekal. In this recording, Jeff also plays drum machine & extra vocalist. The tape version on THT Productions contains 6 nasty mix of raw noisy grindcore with super fast drum machine. The 7" version by Noise Squatch Records which was released in 2000, only has 5 tracks.

SKM - Taplak Gupak Glepung (1998)
A.k.a Sejuta Kata Makian, an industrial noise project by @ariwulu & @jompetkuswidananto
The SKM side is taken from the split tape with Malaysian GORB titled Malindo Industrial split via Anak Liar Records.

we sit down with @gamellance from @ringinmodular , a modular synthesizer maker based in Yogyakarta, during Gaung Rack by @gauuuung

Ringin Modular introduces their first release, the Basic Series — a modular system designed as an accessible starting point for anyone looking to explore the world of modular synthesis.

The system covers the essentials: clock/gate, VCO, envelope, dedicated drum modules for kick and snare, all the way to an analog delay module for shaping and processing sound.

SBTQ Tweaking — Eps 8, Part 2.

This time we caught up with Dylan, aka @logiclost , an experimental noise artist from Jakarta, during Noise on the Bus — a program by @jogjanoiseclub as part of @gauuuung Gumaung.

Dylan usually works with a laptop and a heavily digital-based setup. But with limited space inside a moving bus, he stripped everything down into something much more compact.

For this session, he used an iPad running DM1 drum machine, paired with a Nintendo DS — a handheld device with a long history in experimental electronic music. The DS became a source for textures, sounds, and effects throughout the performance.

This time we caught up with @racunhati Wahn of @bengawannoisesyndicate during Noise on the Bus, organized by @jogjanoiseclub as part of @gauuuung Gumaung.

Performing inside a moving bus comes with its own limitations: tight space, constant movement, and an unstable environment. Instead of fighting those conditions, Wanh adapted his setup.

For this session, he stripped things down to a compact noise generator built by a local maker from Bali, paired with a DOD Death Metal distortion pedal — a pedal that has become a staple in many noise setups.

Still at Gaung Rack, part of Gaung Gemaung.

This time we meet Putro from @sehat_effectors_dot_com , an pedal maker from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, known for unique concept and a strong focus on fuzz-driven sounds — with pedals that have travelled to players across the world.

What makes Sehat Effectors even more interesting is the material behind each build.

Putro experiments with found and recycled objects, turning unexpected materials into functional pieces of sound hardware: old road signs, vintage boomboxes, even an old moisture meter machine.

Some enclosures are made through custom aluminium casting, produced together with local silver craftsmen in Kotagede, Yogyakarta.

Inside Zona Pedot 0.4 Ultra Funkot with @prontaxan__ — Indonesia’s flagship funkot groups, keeping the raw energy of this endemic electronic genre alive and constantly mutating.

Yahya, Hahan, Egha, and Lana break down their hybrid live setup — built around the Pioneer CDJ-3000 as the main workhorse.

Yahya brings vocals into the system through Tascam vocal processing, Auto-Tune, and a Roland SP-404, adding another layer of manipulation to the live mix.

Lana takes the hardware route with an Akai MPC One and Arturia MicroBrute, pushing sequences, rhythms, and lead synth lines directly into the chaos.

And Hahan using Kebumen homemade Pita Suara Godgifted Fast, loud, local.
