✨ Exciting News! ✨

I’m thrilled to announce that Aunty D made it to the TOP 20 on @btpstylingawards for intricate braids! 🎉✨

I recreated Indigenous beaded hoop earrings with hair art. The braids hold deep meaning: the outer braid, inspired by the traditional sweetgrass braid, symbolizes the power and strength we derive from our traditional medicine and smudging practices. The inner braid, the infinite braid, represents the boundless love and laughter within our Indigenous community. Despite the challenges we face, our hearts are always full of love, and our laughter resonates for miles, even in our toughest times. This harmonious blend of the sweetgrass braid and the infinity braid is woven from the strong familial bonds and lineages within Indigenous communities.

This recognition means the world to me, especially as I continue to weave traditional and contemporary styles together. I am grateful the beauty industry recognizes my work as intricate art, it is important to acknowledge that the use of hair braiding and weaving has been used in many indigenous cultures for centuries. We are still here, stepping in these doors and claiming our space in the high fashion beauty world!!

I want to give a huge shoutout to my amazing team! 🌟

First, to the gorgeous model and matriarch in the Indigenous community, @michaella.montana – your grace and strength inspire us all.

To my dearest friend and talented makeup artist, @sweeneydewdew you’ve been my mentor since day one, and your artistry is truly magical.

To my stylist, the incredible @arkaay_ – your eye for creating stunning wardrobe looks is unmatched.

And lastly, to the wonderful photographer, @jordyclarkephoto – you always capture the vibes exactly as I envision them.

I’m so grateful for each and every one of you. Together, we’re making magic! We TOP 20 baby!!!! ❤️✨

Feeling proud!
My first time putting a Dreamcatcher on the hair was for @actinggoodtv Season 1 TV series where I was the Co -Key Hair. I created this look for the lovely @joycedelaronde her character.

My second time I did a Dreamcatcher hair piece was on the gorgeous @michaella.montana for the hair competition @oneshothairawards for @behindthechair_com ❤️ The photographer @jordyclarkephoto, MUA @sweeneydewdew, wardrobe designer @arkaay_ . I am so grateful for these ladies being apart of the 1st international hair competition I submitted my work too.

Finally, I am forever grateful to be apart of @indigenousfashionarts especially working alongside a hair legend @israel_garcia79 & being able to execute his vision of a low pony dreamcatcher. I love Izzy & his hair game 🫶🏾

No kidding My heart stopped when I saw the picture of the dreamcatcher I created on the beautiful model @lifeaspreshh in Vogue!! 2x Vogue Magazine baby!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes when Vogue wrote a whole article on the dreamcatcher hair pieces Israel envisioned for IFA!!! My name in Vogue!! WOW what a great honor to be apart of Izzy hair team!!! I’m still on cloud nine 😍

I love how hair can be art! This is a WIN for all indigenous hairstylist!!

Baby's first CSA nomination 🥺 and make it 3! 💥💥💥

So honoured to have worked on a project close to my heart with the best people. I took many risks in telling this story, and hope others who have been betrayed by their own communities feel Seen. Making this helped me ~find my voice~ again.

She is unapologetically herself. Her beauty is exquisite. She radiates confidence. She is a work of art. She lives in two worlds; Black & Indigenous which makes her strong, resilient and powerful. She is our afro-indigenous kin.
