Tankers Friends & Foes: Day 2.

Heading back this morning, I was excited to see what the day had in store. I got to meet a bunch more of the members of @official_lilha who were incredibly welcoming. Representing both Allied & Axis forces from both WWI & WWII. It is certainly interesting to see what a difference the uniforms looked like 20 years apart, especially the United States.

Tankers Friends & Foes: Day 1.

Today was Day 1 of the @armormuseum hosting its Tankers Friends & Foes event which was a cool experience getting to see such powerful machines in action. Almost all of the tanks and other vehicles at the museum are fully operational. Living Historians from @official_lilha portrayed both Allied and Axis forces and were there to educate guests on their uniforms and weapons of their respective countries.

Bringing Veterans together through connection & camaraderie! 🇺🇸

The Rockland County Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project recently brought veterans from different generations and branches together for a day trip to the Museum of American Armor in Old Bethpage, NY. 🎖️

Surrounded by military history, artifacts, and vehicles, veterans shared stories, sparked conversations, made new connections, and enjoyed plenty of laughs along the way! 💙

These outings create a relaxed, pressure-free space for veterans to build genuine peer relationships, reconnect with a sense of belonging, and support one another through shared experiences. 🤝

France 1944: US Military Convoy on the Move

Following the massive D-Day amphibious assaults in June 1944, the success of the Allied breakout relied entirely on a monumental logistical machine. As American forces pushed into the dense, unforgiving bocage(hedgerow country), endless streams of military convoys became the lifeblood of the advance. Fleets of rugged Willys jeeps, heavy cargo trucks, and armored M3 half-tracks pushed relentlessly inland, transforming the narrow French country lanes into high-traffic arteries. These convoys were responsible for ferrying thousands of combat troops, essential medical supplies, rations, and tons of ammunition to a constantly shifting front line.

However, driving through the Normandy countryside was far from a scenic route; it was a highly perilous assignment. Convoy crews were vulnerable to sudden ambushes from German forces concealed in the thick foliage, as well as sniper fire and targeted artillery strikes. Despite these intense hazards, the sheer scale and synchronized movement of the US Army’s motor pool demonstrated an overwhelming industrial and mechanical superiority. This unstoppable forward momentum ultimately broke the German defenses, paving the way for the liberation of France and the Allied march toward victory.
