PITTSBURGH DRINKS visits SPORK ISLAND TRADING CO.

Sneak peak at the newest downtown hotspot @sporkisland Trading Co. A tropical oasis right in the heart of the Penn Ave hospitality corridor. Steve Zumoff (Tiki Lounge) and Andrew Tepper (One by Spork and Poetry Lounge) have collaborated on this truly remarkable project… bringing a taste of the islands to downtown Pittsburgh.

This new paradise getaway was designed by tiki designer @bamboo_ben_ , and not a single detail was overlooked. We thoroughly enjoyed the volcano village at the entrance, the privacy of the booth seatings, and the bathroom musical options.

While we knew the cocktails were gonna be top-notch, carefully crafted by @ryanpantos @paigeyybarker and @arncty, the food pairings caught us off-guard and blew us away. The extensive variety of the menu fired on all cylinders. Some favorites were Lobster Rangoon, Hamachi Crudo, Chicken Liver Mousse, and Pork Belly. Looking forward to a return visit to try the Yakatori Station which was not available for tonight’s preview.

Destined to be a go-to stop on every future downtown visit. 🗿🍹🌋🏝️

Today was hard. I sincerely appreciate all the texts and messages I got today. I’m sorry I couldn’t respond to most. And I appreciate the hugs and words of comfort that I was able to receive first hand. You’re all such beautiful souls and I’m so lucky to have each and every one of you in my life.

I know Don knew he was loved, because he had people just like you in his life.

It’s going to be hard without Don in mine, but you all take the burden away by your generosity and love.

A legend!

Cannot overstate the importance of @gruffshuffler influence on Pittsburgher’s cocktail scene.

Don planted the seeds that would later blossom into Pittsburgh’s craft cocktail resurgence.

There was nobody else like him, and without his influence there would probably not even be a Pittsburgh Drinks book.

Will miss this man more than words can express.

Love you Don. I hope you found the peace you so deserved. You were 1 in a million.

Stopped in to Get Hip records tonight, and got to walk out with two Pgh legends on vinyl! Great show w/ Carsickness, and the shop has an amazing local music selection.

Look forward to hearing these local acts (and many more… we’ve got quite the local collection) on the Poetry Lounge turntables.
