One of the most eagerly awaited spaces at Paris Design Week Factory opens its doors tomorrow. An opportunity to drop by and see what this new edition has in store, alongside designers and co-curators Jean-Baptiste Durand and Simon Geringer, who this year take over from the founders of the Meet Met Met collective.
A change in direction that appears to mark a genuine turning point for the Factory. The fair-like format, until now built around the accumulation and juxtaposition of stands, has given way to a more curatorial framework, in which the scenography seeks less to present projects individually than to bring them into dialogue with one another.
For the roughly forty designers on show, including Mathilde Garcia, Gast Studio and Valentin Jager, this shift creates a freer framework for expression, while also raising the question of how much space is left for the objects themselves when the staging becomes an integral part of the exhibition’s narrative.
