There’s something lovely about welcoming cooler days and bringing layers back into our wardrobes.

A favourite jacket, a newly sewn pair of pants, a shirt that works on its own or as a layer… each make helps to build outfits for a new season.

Fall sewing is an opportunity to play with texture, colour and silhouette. By revisiting our favourite patterns or perhaps trying something new, it’s a perfect time to create clothes that reflect our personal style.

There were plenty of free patterns many SewOver50 people used this year as part of SewFrugal26.

While Sam @frugalisama and Ruan @theyorkshiresewgirl have this challenge for 6 year now below are a sample of SewOver50 entries your can enjoy:

1: @eversewoften with her last minute entry using @maisonfauve Pomponwaistcoat. Her remnant was a bit short but she sewed a fabulous piece.

2: @museflette used fabric bought in Berlin in 2025 using @tessutifabrics Mandy Boat tee

3: @arol.lou use the Hanbok vest with thrifted navy cotton quilt and scraps from 2 previous projects.

4: @dunne_by_helen used a Merchant and Mills remnant and with @matchymatchysewingclub Craft Studio Tee whipped up this top ‘made with love and bad language’ tag

5: @sewmelwyk entry used the Kelly Watch the Stars top from Festival Road. She used Google Translate as the pattern is French.

So excited to announce the launch of my very first pattern - the Poppy Apron Top! Poppy features a classic apron-style silhouette with a softly rounded neckline, deep armholes, and big adjustable bows at each side to easily find your perfect fit.

The bodice is fully lined with all seams neatly enclosed, so there’s no need for an overlocker!

Intended fit: the Poppy Apron Top is designed with a loose fit, to easily layer over your clothing. The arm holes are deep and wide, with ties at each side to adjust the fit to your liking.

Sizing: the pattern comes in grouped sizes - XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL.

Every time I send a pattern out for testing, I’m reminded how unbelievably fortunate I am to have so many people who want to be part of bringing it to life.

I love the community that testing fosters, and I appreciate every bit of feedback I receive. Heck, I’ve made some of my best sewing friends through this process.

These are the final photos I received from testing, but there were so many others who contributed behind the scenes and helped shape the Bertie Shirtie into the amazing pattern that it is today.

There are a few people pictured here I especially want to shout out. My fit tester, @madeby.bran, who really helped me hone in the fit throughout the full size range, and my mom, who has looked over every single pattern I’ve created. She’s played such a big role in proofreading my instruction manuals.

My mom is currently battling stage 4 cancer and still took the time to review this pattern and watch my video tutorial multiple times through. I love you, Mom! 🤍

This pattern came from dreaming up the perfect cozy, oversized crewneck—one we could lounge in at home but still feel great wearing out and about. Safe to say, it delivered: we each have 5+ Lizabeths in our closets already, with many more planned.

One of our favorite things about the Lizabeth is how versatile it is. It works beautifully in a wide range of knit fabrics, and our testers truly showed that off—using sweatshirt fleece, waffle knits, cotton jersey, sweater knit, and more. We’ve loved seeing their creativity and can’t wait to share more of their makes with you!
