My arrangement of “Help Me” is on the Grammy ballot for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals!

I’ve always loved this Joni Mitchell piece and wanted to figure out a way to adapt it for my sextet. I transcribed the guitar riffs from the end of the song, as it’s fading out, and used them for the intro and as inspiration for other lines and fills that I wrote for the bass clarinet and violin throughout the song. There is no reharmonization because Joni is perfect, and the main difference, aside from the instrumentation, intro and written fills, is the rhythmic space I added in the first and last A sections.

In case you didn’t catch this on Hallmark earlier this year, ‘The Way Home’ Season 4 is now on Netflix! You can hear ‘Song for the Mira’ from my album Jazz Country featuring @jesselewismusic and @aronoffmatt in Episode 4. This was a real career highlight for me and I’m so glad more of you will be able to see it! It features a cast of kick-ass women (Chyler Leigh, Andie MacDowell, Sadie Laflamme-Snow) and was created/written by a kick-ass woman (Alexandra Clarke). 💪🏻
