it’s safe to say that we already have a really solid selection for rap albums to win the prized grammy this year

a lot of mainstream has made at least some sort of a resurgence this year and they deserve to be highlighted especially in comparison to some recent years. today i wanted to take a look at some albums i think we can look at for early chances for the rap aoty

even though it released literally only 2 days ago, isaiah rashad’s “it’s been awful” has been a contender for best of the year so far. his masterful craft over cultivating a vibe in his music especially on songs like “M.O.M.” and “HAPPY HOUR”. his construction is honestly bar nonet

we’ve covered this one like crazy already but it just goes to show the cultural relevance that “the fall off” has already had this year. with it beings cole’s final album it was apparent that a lot of care was going into it. when you have a song like “only you” on there how can it not be considered for album of the year. probably the leading favorite to win it realistically

you’ve got a bunch of other albums on here that could all be picks though, from a$ap rocky’s “don’t be dumb” to baby keem’s “ca$ino” being an album we watched a tonnnnn of maturity for keem through. ye’s “bully,” yb’s “slime cry,” cardi b’s “am i the drama” and all make for a field we should have an interesting time observing

what are your thoughts on picking an album of the year? does only one deserve to win? do you thinks it’s too early to consider albums for rap AOTY? what album do you want to see win? which album are you enjoying the most from the field so far this year?

one of the most important rappers in the game today and y’all lived the prince post we made a bit ago dedicated to examining and extracting the creative lessons from his life so here we are doing it for cole too

cole is honestly one of the main rappers that introduced me to hiphop way back in the day as a middle schooler when I was listening to 2014 forest hills drive for the first time on my ipod touch lmao

often times, as creatives, I feel like it’s easy for us to lose sight of what self-care looks like because we’re so focused on what the next creative idea looks like for us. it’s interesting because in reality, creativity and self-care are things that go hand-in-hand. i’d even call them synonyms honestly

at least with j cole, that’s been something I feel like i’ve seen an overabundance of throughout my time as a hiphop fan. i cannot begin to count all of the times where a j cole video has popped up on my feed where he’s either being vulnerable about something in his own experience or speaking on a learning lesson he’s sharing with the world

meditation, not being a slave to vices, having a SCHEDULE and a ROUTINE… these are all things we can benefit from and hearing it come from a rapper like cole is why I wanted to make this post

at least with this new album on the way too, we kinda see that from the album cover being shot with the beat machine he had all the way back when he was a kid, the album trailer talking about how he’s trying to craft this project with as much intention as possible, the burner account etc

it’s pretty astonishing that one rapper could achieve so much success while staying true to who they are outside of the creative outlet itself. many artists seem to lose themselves in it, but cole hasn’t

lessons to learn and if you have a specific cole moment you take from, let me know below family had to show love to one of my goats :’)

I’m excited to announce that my debut short film will premiere later this month at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

It’s been an honour to shoot this film in my home country, The Gambia, and to collaborate with a cast and crew made up predominantly of Gambians. 🇬🇲
