Some icons don’t age — they evolve.

Catifa Carta’s shell is crafted entirely from PaperShell — 29 sheets of paper bonded with natural resin, sourced responsibly from residues of Swedish wood production: sawdust, chips, and branches. The result? A chair that retains the carbon dioxide originally captured by trees.

And the story doesn’t end there. At the end of its life, the shell undergoes pyrolysis — converting into biochar, a carbon-rich charcoal that locks in CO₂ instead of releasing it. Returned to the soil, it restores natural richness and supports biodiversity.

A chair with a life beyond its lifetime.

Design begins long before the first piece of furniture is drawn.

In 2009, the ambition wasn’t simply to design a new insurance office.

The ambition was to rethink how people would work.

The client was already looking towards a paperless organisation, which meant the workspace had to become more open, organised and adaptable without losing the generous qualities of the existing architecture.

Rather than dividing the building into separate offices, I organised it around movement, daylight and continuity.

A single reception desk connects two floor levels.
A continuous storage wall brings clarity to the workspace.
The meeting room, workstations and garden remain visually connected, allowing light and space to flow through the entire project.

Looking back, this project marked an important transition in my own practice.

It was no longer about designing individual objects.

It became about designing systems.

One element from this project continued its journey beyond the building.

The meeting table designed specifically for this project later evolved into the RALF.M table, which subsequently became part of the Moon collection. — a reminder that some products don’t begin in a collection, but in a real place, with real people and a real question.
