Thank you to the UCL Art Business Society @art.bus.soc for welcoming me to my alma mater last night! Because of the current climate in the arts and cultural sector (well, for our generation in the workforce in general) students now more than ever want to hear about different career pathways. When I started out at UCL nearly 10 years ago, I thought I could only be a gallerist, a curator, or work at an auction house. Now, careers look very different. There are so many different options that have existed for a long time, but were not really known about as openly – at least not with a Google search – and there are also new careers, emerging, and the importance of portfolio careers is becoming more and more relevant. Because I have written Working In Art: How To Build A Career In The Art World, I feel like I am one of the most qualified people to talk about careers in the art world in my generation at the moment. There hasn’t been a resource that gives such a deep overview that I have worked on over the last year. To see so many students react so positively to not only the book but also NXT GEN really showed me how important these initiatives are for young people today. Thank you again to the UCL Art Business Society for having me (and FYI your card made me cry on the way home🥹🫠😭😂) #ArtCareers #WorkingInArt #UCL #ArtWorld #PublicSpeaking

🎬 WOMEN IN ARTSUCL | VOL.3 “Women artists are so emotional.” “All-women teams are catty and mean!” “Why do women comedians only talk about dating??” Stereotypes like these shape how women in the arts are perceived- but how true are they? 🤔 Filmed on International Women’s Day, Arts Officer Ashley sat down with four incredible artsUCL leaders to unpack and debunk these myths. From challenging toxic narratives to celebrating women’s talent, this conversation is all about reclaiming space in the arts. 🎭✨ With this, we close our Women in artsUCL series. Huge thanks to all our speakers for sharing their stories. We hope their voices inspire more women to create, lead and take up space! 💜 🎥 @nafsikapolemis
