A short train ride from Washington, D.C. Philly is worth a visit for its thriving food scene, historic neighborhoods, and the largest mural program in the country. Spending 48 hours in Pennsylvania’s largest city, here are the highlights.

1) Spending a day at @EnsembleArtsPhilly to learn about the evolution of democracy with @TED Democracy. Over 21 speakers shared reflections and insights leading to the charge that democracy requires a sense of responsibility for neighbors, empathy, repair, accountability, free press, informed public, and dignity,

2) Eating good food at @MawnPhilly, @MajdalBakery, @Pietranala_PHL, @MrRabbitPhilly, and @CleoBagels,

3) Drinking good coffee at @LaJefaPhilly, cocktails at @Static_PHL, and sour ale at @HumanRobotBeer,

4) Exploring neighborhoods like Bella Vista, Callowhill, and Poplar finding murals through @MuralArts, the largest mural program in the country,

5) Seeing Victorian homes in Spruce Hill and Ethiopian restaurants in Cedar Park,

6) Finding peace at Rittenhouse Square, a public park planned in the 17th century, and Malcolm X Memorial Park, which hosts an annual Juneteenth celebration and a bi-monthly Black Farmers Market,

7) Hiking Wissahickon Valley park and finding old mansions, manmade caves, graffiti art, and a historic paper mill village,

8) Learning about famous shoes at the small museum inside @TUSPM_TemplePodiatry.
