Our latest paper on the Wonderboom Stone Age site is out in Lithic Technology!

🔎 Excavations (2022–2023) revealed that, while only a handful of Acheulean LCTs were found in the upper 40 cm of the excavation, the majority of artefacts show systematic blade and point production, strong evidence for a Middle Stone Age signature.

✨ This updates our understanding of Wonderboom nearly 70 years after its discovery and highlights the valley’s long occupational history.

🎬 End of season reflections…

As our field season draws to a close, we share a glimpse, in Wes Anderson style, of the people, landscapes, and artefacts that shaped this year’s work.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, expertise, and dedication to uncovering the deep history of Wonderboom.

The first week of Wonderboom flew by and we find ourselves smack in the second week frozen through. Luckily we have excavated deep enough to get some shelter from the chilly wind that swept through most of South Africa this week.
