The centerpiece is finished for now, and I'm finally moving on to the supporting cast!

I've spent quite a bit of time exploring the different conditions of the flesh on this monstrosity, from the sickly, deteriorating anatomy to the raw, exposed tissue and those enormous, pale hands.

One of my favorite aspects has been creating contrast between the living and dying elements, giving each surface its own character while keeping everything visually connected.

I'm really pleased with how this creature has developed. There are still a few areas I may revisit, but for now, I'm calling this stage complete.
Next comes the fun of bringing the surrounding characters into the same disturbing world. LOL.

Things are getting progressively nastier with this one! LOL.
I've been concentrating on giving the flesh a more diseased appearance, introducing sickly yellows and greens against the deeper reds and purples. I'm especially happy with how the exposed anatomy is coming together, particularly around the head and torso.

One thing I'm trying to capture is that uncomfortable balance between living tissue and something that's been slowly rotting away.

I'm starting to build the foundational colors on this grotesque sculpt, working with Ochre Clay, Velvet Red, Vampiric Purple, and Red Wash, then bringing in transparent Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber inks to deepen everything.
At this stage, I'm not trying to make anything look finished. I'm focused on building interesting color relationships, letting the washes settle into the anatomy, and seeing where the natural textures take me. I want those reds and purples to feel like something living beneath the surface, while the earthy tones help tie everything together.
For me, this is where the sculpt starts developing its own character. I'm just laying the groundwork for everything that comes next.

More flesh practice. Started with a rough sketch, refined the structure, then worked through my normal washes before experimenting with the Tamiya clears.
Instead of flooding them like a traditional wash, I’ve been blotting and lightly padding color into specific areas—pushing yellows, reds, greens and violets into the flesh while keeping all that texture and information underneath.
Now I can go back in with acrylics or oils and reestablish structure wherever I want it.
This one is about seeing how far I can push temperature, texture and chaos before bringing everything back together. Practice before I tackle the big dog. 😈#warhammer40k #dungeonsanddragons #grimdark #artist #miniatureartist

Three new little nightmares on the bench.
All completely different.
All disgusting in their own special way. 😂

“The inner chamber is finally open.
The excavation complete.
As our scans indicated; an object made of materials predating our civilisation stands amidst these damp yet dusty stone walls.
The stench of rotting iron berates our senses as our worn soles beat away thick heavy sediment.
What showed as impossible living matter on our equipment’s readings now throbs before us, slick, bleeding.
This relic of a time before gods - made of metals, tarnished and rusted. An equilibrium of decay and birth, endless cycles of perfect stagnation.
The blood, ever liquid.
The smell is exactly that.
Flesh rotting for eternity as it heals and weeps ichor and relief.
Something at its foot shifts…
It…
What is that?
It’s…alive…..?”

This amazing sculpt called “Libra” from @necropunks_miniatures series of Dark Zodiac - and designed by the brutally talented main-man himself @leandro_benignoart was the perfect model to practice three things on:

1: Metal works. As often I struggle a bit there and this was a great surface to refine and practice with! But with the help of some Dirty Down Rust by @goblinshut I always feel more and more confident in the results!!

2: My Flesh Grafting technique mixing uhu and pva and painting it after.

3: Applying my various other techniques such as Oil pencil veins, and PVA flesh layering on a smaller scale - as Bill, the little devil at the feet of this ominous statue, is a tiny tiny lil lad (for my standards) 😈

In my upcoming photo post we’ll see more of Bill’s flesh and The Flesh Grafted cloak, and will make a write up for how this was achieved if you like??

I want to extend a huge shoutout to @art_lillo

Awhile back, I participated in a giveaway they were doing and I surprisingly won. I had the privilege of having one of my old drawings rendered into a 3D mockup. I picked this wild character I designed while I was in high school. He did such an amazing job bringing him to life and gifted me a version that I should be able to have 3D printed into a physical piece. I’m so pumped to eventually paint this creeper haha. Seriously, if you aren’t following this artist’s work, you need to start doing so now. Phenomenally talented and nice dude.
