Got awarded at Carnegie, no biggie! 🗽🥇

“The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the nation’s longest running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Out of over 300,000 submissions from across America & Canada, 5-7% of which winning national keys, only roughly 2,200-2,800 entries(less than 1%), are awarded national medals and awarded at Carnegie”.

I am so so honoured I won a gold medal for my fashion design piece, as well as a gold key nationally(Canada) for another design, and for being an American Visions award nominee. Forever grateful I was recognized amongst the most talented young American and Canadian artists and writers. So beyond thankful to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, my opportunity to go to NYC in early June, and all the incredible & cool friends I met during awards week. Reminiscing every day. 🫶🫶❤️

Thank you Scholastic! Thank you Billy!

$18 year old Kinsale at Bears Ears National Monument feels the same exact way as 26 year old Kinsale (who feels the same way as even 1 year old me). Bears Ears and Grand Staircase, all of our ancestral lands are sacred. We have a shared responsibility to protect them. Here’s a roundup of what’s been happening since last spring (and before that, for years and years). No mining. No fracking. No exploitation. NO. DATA. CENTERS. ⚠️✋🛑‼️ Educate yourself about our public lands & why they deserve our voices, bodies, support, and protection. Nearly eight years ago I drove 12 hours straight to the Bears Ears Summer Gathering from a poetry reading (lol!!!), shared meals with relatives and new friends and family, discussed strategy, and genuinely felt my heart grow lighter through a week of art & music & poetry that people who loved the Four Corners brought. Only days later I met Joy Harjo for the first time in DC, knowing that I would do anything in my power and with my one life to keep fighting for all people of the region & of these lands, just as Joy and many many many many others before me have done and continue to do. On the last slide: in DC, in NMAI in the middle of the spiral, furiously writing essays and working on my pieces for an anthology that became @torreyhousepress’s incredible book edited by @alastairbitsoi ~ I stand with Bears Ears 🩵✨🙌🫶 please help us protect our public lands, our ancestral lands, our sacred sites. Join the fight. Show up to demonstrations at the Capitol. @protect.utah @jesswiarda @tokwoch.hop Follow @protectbearsears @bearsearscoalition @protectwildutah @igniteutahaction & more. Make a stink via phone calls, emails, etc. Let Mike Lee, Celeste Maloy, Spencer Cox, and EVERYONE know that if they don’t act now, it’s curtains (we’re voting them out already. They’ve failed us so many times). VOTE. THEM. OUT. SHOW UP. EMAIL. CALL. DON’T BACK DOWN. We did it once, twice. We can do it again.$
