N T // I always love seeing what my former students are up to! Jenny Kuschke ’22 has opened @blueflowervntg inside the very cool @theoldchapelmarket in North Tonawanda—and our Hannah @sonderlingsupplyco, who was part of the RUNWAY Amplify Creative team, has her work for sale there too! The whole place is filled with over 200 vendors and SO many treasures. Of course I found some really cute pieces. Totally worth the drive and an afternoon of exploring! Go check it out and follow Jenny + Hannah on their creative journeys! Hugs! #BuffaloStateFTT #RUNWAY #ShopLocal716 #BuffaloVintage #NorthTonawanda

“visualizing lake erie: where art and data meet” pen plotted drawings by milk kempski and dave mawer digital visualization animation by katie witnauer fibers by jamey alea advised by dave mawer gallery assistance by paige ciezki support from brian and ben of the buff state great lakes center i got asked to be a part of this lake erie data visualization project back at the beginning of fall semester by @dmawer - i was newly back at school, still recovering from the burnout of my old career in tech, and trying to think about art in new ways. my life has been becoming increasingly analog and i wasn’t really feeling hyped about the intersection of art and tech, but i decided to join the project anyway, mainly because there were a couple other art students on the project learning to code in p5.js and i hoped that having someone around who was comfortable with javascript would be a good resource for them - and maybe writing just enough code that i don’t forget how to do this marketable skill wouldn’t be so bad for me but it ended up becoming more than that. it was - maybe not THE new way of looking at art that i was searching for - but certainly a fresh way of thinking about creating and what art represents and what it means for me to be an artist. seeing everyone else get excited about integrating tech into their work was motivating, especially as i started to get to see the outputs of what they were working on, like milk and dave’s incredible pen plotter drawings. it got me thinking about how i’m lucky to have insight into both the art and the tech sides of art/tech, and how using technology as part of your process doesn’t mean that your final result can’t be analog. i’m incredibly proud of the fibers piece that i contributed (but I’ll make another post specifically about that piece, as it’s one of the more complex/involved pieces of art i’ve ever done and i want to really explain it!) it ended up being a really, really cool exhibition, and the reception that we hosted during student showcase day was really fun and rewarding. the show as a whole is a little bit hard to convey through photographs, but here’s my best shot at it!
