POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It’s been a prolific and peaceful time in my little corner of the world. Friday night’s Michael Franti Trio concert followed me into the studio.

Meet “The Sound of Sunshine” named after the song playing here.

This painting began a few years ago with the sunsets I used to watch over the Gulf, and a canvas from a lovely painter friend @kimberlyengelart, with an underpainting of warm ochre and burnt umber. Everything else grew from there. I started experimenting with spray paint and palm fronds, cheered on by the wonderful artist community at @sixstarartstudios who always inspired a deeper dive deeper into my art and into myself.

Then I put it away for about two years, until Friday’s concert inspired me to pick it back up. Here’s the result.

It’s not finished yet, but I’m too excited to be tapped back into this Big Sun energy to not share.

Thank you, Michael Franti and The Trio, for your music, your inspiration and for the reminder that we are not alone.

To my friends in St. Pete, I miss you and those sunsets so much! Thank you everyone for the the continual love & support.

Sometimes it’s simply sharing the work. 🎨

As Blake looks toward Season 3, he’s building partnerships with sponsors, film equipment companies, museums, galleries, and anyone who wants to help Art Docs TV grow.

But some of the biggest support has come from people he doesn’t even know—strangers who see the work, share it, and help it reach someone new.

Because you don’t have to know an artist to be moved by their work. You just have to see it. ✨

There’s no exact blueprint for what Blake Cortes is building with Art Docs. 🎥

He’s not creating one-off art documentaries—he’s building an entire documentary platform and docuseries, often figuring things out as he goes.

Blake’s approach is simple: keep trying, keep learning, and eventually something will stick.

Sometimes the numbers tell you something you didn’t even realize was happening. 👀📈

With nearly two years on YouTube, 1,500 subscribers, and two seasons largely focused on Tampa Bay artists, Art Docs TV is showing just how much interest there is in the artists and creative work happening right here.

And if this is what the growth looks like now… who knows where Art Docs TV could take us next?

Sometime ago I came across this amazing DJ at @blackpower96fm with an incredible story. It was something so special that I had to figure a way to make a documentary about him. We spent many months producing this film which has grown into something more than I expected. With a great crew and grant from @pinellasdap we have been about to continue making this documentary.
.
Thank you to everyone that was here from the beginning and those who believed in the film when it was just an idea.

What makes Blake Cortes stop and say, “Okay… I need to know more about this artist”? 👀🎨

For Blake, it’s all about that moment when a piece slaps you in the face—when the artwork grabs your attention and makes you want to know the story behind it.

From gallery-hopping to digging into artist statements and backgrounds, Blake is always looking for the thread that connects the artist, their work, and the story worth telling.
Because there’s incredible art all over Tampa Bay.

Sometimes, you just have to know where to look. ✨

What started as a test turned into something much bigger. 🎥🎨

When Blake Cortes started Art Docs TV, he just wanted to make small documentaries about artists he knew. But after seeing the response—and realizing how many people were asking, “Where did you find this artist?”—he knew he had found something worth pursuing.

Because the truth is, there is SO much talent in Tampa Bay. The challenge is making sure people know where to find it.
That’s what Art Docs TV is all about: shining a light on the artists already creating incredible work in our community.
