I was so excited to attend the Pittsburg Artwalk last month on their milestone 20th anniversary. What an incredible event! Besides 3 city blocks chock full of artists and makers booths featuring gorgeous arts and crafts of every kind, from ceramics, jewelry and painting to fiber, metal and glass art and everything in between:

There were food trucks, interactive art projects, live music and dance performances, people in fantastical costumes, and a ribbon cutting highlighting the beautiful new 20th anniversary community mural.

The folks at Pittsburg Arts Council work hard to put on this event twice a year (yes!! There's another in the spring 🌱) and wow, they really know how to throw a party. Follow their page for details about the spring event. And check out their annual Holiday Art Market on Saturday Nov. 28.

This Saturday Oct. 10, ArtForms Gallery is celebrating 10 years in business. You can find art from local artists here year round. I visited the night before Artwalk and I guarantee you will love it!

It’s not too early to start planning for cooler weather and all that comes with the winter holiday season. Learn beginning metalsmithing skills in this workshop including, sawing, filing, stamping, piercing and oxidizing sheet metal. One of a kind ornaments make awesome gifts, and can be personalized through monogram stamping or short messages. Time to get festive at the gallery!

Here’s an idea: If you live in KC and want to escape the World Cup crowds, head south to Pittsburg, Kansas for a pretty great day in downtown.

🥞 Breakfast at Otto’s Cafe - do not skip ordering the cinnamon roll!

Explore downtown - it’s a big one and full of a little something for everyone:

📚The Literary Cat Co. A bookstore with cats.
🖼️ ArtForms Gallery featuring the work of local artists.
👕 Miners & Monroe might be my favorite men’s shop in Kansas.
👚 Embellish Boutique for the ladies.

☕️ If you need a pick-me-up hit up The Balkan, coffee shop by day cocktails by night

🍔 Grab lunch at Bob’s Grill. I, and pretty much everyone in town, recommend the burger.

🍻 Have dinner at Drop the H, a local brewery and pizza joint that you and the whole fam could spend hours at.

🥃 End the night with a cocktail (and chocolates) in the courtyard at The dRink.

🛏️ Stay at Town Talk AirBnb and you can walk to all of this!
