“3 songs” is now on all streaming platforms for the first time.

These songs were recorded in late 2012 at the Hot Dog House in room 5. We put these demos out to raise money for the food bank of Monmouth & Ocean county post Hurricane Sandy, and with just a few mics @bobpaulos made them sound pretty darn good! We eventually re-recorded “Nashville” a few years later.

“Do You Want a Click Track? No.” is the first EP we put out in 2012.

We recorded this at Trax East in South River with @eightsixteenrecording_. We had a few hours and cut the music live and vocals after that. We were geeking out to record in that room where so many great records had been made. Eric Rachel was there hanging out for a while as well and he was a really nice guy.

@arthkris created a few amazing designs for us and our favorite became the cover of the EP.

This has always been on bandcamp, but never on streaming platforms. It’s up there now.

Thanks for listening.

One of the hardest things to learn as a creative: you’re allowed to say no - and @arthkris has gotten very good at it!

Not every project deserves your energy. Not every client deserves your compromise.

Sometimes closing one door is exactly what makes space for the right ones to open.

It seems every conference we have sought to grow in one way or another except for capacity — we do have a limit of how many things we can physically produce as a team of two 💪. By going to Nashville we were testing if a larger percentage of our audience would travel for the conference instead of relying so much on local attendance. It worked! That opened up our options for the future as we sought interesting venues and cities all around the country.

Needless to say the theater is stunning, even if the stage has no walls — an odd setup that we solved by making 4-foot-tall standing letters that took several months to paint with the patterns we had developed. It was a slow progress that took over our bedroom which we used as storage, but we were thrilled with the result.

Excited about being in a new city and venue we started with a short musical number we found at one of the local honky tonks; we don’t think playing at 9:00 am was on their life bingo cards! We also featured one of the few non-branding-designers ever at BNConf but we really wanted to bring in Manuel (aka Tailor to the Stars) whose glittering custom garments have been worn by presidents, musicians, artists, athletes, and movie stars. The weather was amazing, the outside patio a dream, and we have been trying to go back since! Finally, ten years later we are. Never give up.

Another odd highlight was having an extra session at the end of Thursday sharing Mozilla’s open sourced rebrand — done in collaboration with Johnson Banks — from concept to first ideas to the final routes, followed by a hosted reception with additional audience feedback after the session.

This was also the last year we did traditional catering… as we watched the piles of “exposed” food go into the large 🗑️ at the end of the day. As we could not stomach the waste we vowed to find an alternative solution ❌. Since we can’t donate open food we have since moved to pre-packaged snacks, which while not as fancy and delicious, can be donated after the event to various organizations.
