A closer look behind the scenes thanks to @nbcchicago of the incredible performance by the @guitarsovergunschi program - an exclusive program for our students at our Art In Motion campus. @artinmotionchi We couldn’t be more proud of Mason and Naomi, who helped write the song and took the stage to perform it at the grand opening ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center. What an amazing testament to dedication, hard work, and following your dreams.

We had the honor of attending a special community preview of the Obama Presidential Center on June 7, followed by today’s grand opening celebration. Congratulations to President Obama on this incredible milestone—the space is truly remarkable and promises to be a powerful hub for community and inspiration.

The grand opening event highlighted powerful performances by our founder, Common, and former Fine Arts instructor Andre Daniels (Guitar Over Guns), alongside a stunning mural created by alumni parent and former Fine Arts instructor Dorian Sylvain. We are also proud to share that our co-founder, Dr. Mahalia Hines, is memorialized on-site as one of the founding board members—making it an unforgettable experience rooted in art, community, and legacy.

Congratulations to Dreamer and Believer Kayla Baxter (Class of 2025) our future educator who has been greatly impacted by the Common Ground Foundation.
---
Here is a snippet of a love letter she wrote.

I started as a shy ☺️mentee, but with my mentor Ms. Malika’s encouragement, I pushed myself to embrace public speaking. Attending the Woman King outing also boosted my confidence as I connected with inspiring women.

One memorable moment was during our “Everybody Up” icebreaker, which taught me the importance of teamwork to achieve goals. At first, the personal statement workshop felt overwhelming, but it ultimately prepared me for college admissions, making me feel ready for my junior and senior year.

Since joining Common Ground, I’ve gained confidence and clarity about my future. The college tour at Clark Atlanta University surprised me with its resources and majors, and I even enjoyed a Po’Boy sandwich for the first time!🤩

Today I proudly say, I’m Kayla Baxter, a Dreamer and Believer and I am excited to announce that I am a proud graduate of Art in Motion and in the fall I will be attending @harrisstowe State University as a Early Education Major.

I'm grateful for all of these experiences and eager for more. Thank you, Dr. Hines and the staff, for this valuable opportunity."🤩😄

I couldn’t be prouder of this year’s graduating class at @artinmotionchi . You’ve shown resilience, creativity, and a deep commitment to your growth not just as students, but as young leaders ready to make an impact. Watching you discover your voice and purpose has been a powerful reminder of what AIM is all about. Keep shining, keep pushing, and never forget that your journey is just beginning. The world needs what you have to offer. 📸 by @kolorblindisaac @kolorblindmedia
