Your purpose is also what happens in others when you do what you do.

Thank you blackboxgallery for the recognition in your exhibition Black and White: 2026.

Going through a phase in life where I can’t tell if I’m nostalgic, getting old, or just increasingly out of place in the modern world.

Probably all of the above.

Actually, all of the above.

About the photographer

Hi I’m Tuomas from Helsinki, Finland.
I’ve been making photos pretty much since I was a teenager, and moved to more serious concert/event photography around 20 years ago. In 2019 street photography took over, and that’s what I mostly do with my cameras these days. I try to capture quick, passing moments, gestures and get balanced compositions. I mostly shoot with Fujifilm gear, and with small Ricoh and Leica compact cameras.

My picture of the year: 2025

This image is pretty symbolic for lots of reasons, and I’m sure you regulars are sick of seeing it, and sick of me saying it’s been recognised with another award (which it has - thank you @artistic.awards 🙏).

The more I think about my 2025, the more I see myself in this image (god, no, not in a wetsuit or surfing competition). 2025 has been a year of tremendous change for me - things left behind that I’ve held close for a long time, and new challenges (both fun and not-so-fun) that have come my way. I’m walking a new path and contemplating much about what came before and what happens after. Who I was before and who I am now. What I farewell and what I embrace.

This photo will always hold the memories of that day, along with the symbolism of what it has meant since then.

Whatever path you’re on, I wish you well for 2026. I know it will have ups and downs, there will be happiness and sad times, there’ll be mundanity and excitement. I hope you can see and feel it all, and feel all the feels that come with.

Whatever we’re going through - remember this.

This too shall pass.

The good times will pass — make the most of them. The shit times will pass - like a kidney stone probably - but they will pass.

Thank you for being with me through 2025. See you on the other side.

PS. To my Facebook followers - I’m locked out of that account, 😢 I don’t know when (or if) I’ll get it back. I’m not ignoring you, I miss you all. If you can, please follow me on Insta, Threads or LinkedIn.

In the final days of 2025, I received a deeply meaningful year-end gift.

I am honored to announce that my work ”Nightmare“ has won the Gold Award in the Fine Art category at the inaugural IAPA. Being invited to participate in this debut edition and receiving such recognition is the perfect way to conclude the year.

The piece explores a state of being caught ”in between“: Blue ball pits hold fragments of dreams we wish could last, while white-tiled basements echo the pressure we try to forget. In between, we sink without noticing.

Special thanks to my model, @ooooooli_via . Thank you for your complete trust and collaboration; together, we created something truly remarkable.

Thank you all for your support throughout the year. See you in 2026.
