I made a fun pattern with some dichro for this one. It’s a little tricky to work it when one color is softer than the other but I really like how it turned out. Good stuff @artofdichroic

This past weekend, I’ve had the pleasure of sharing the experience of fusing glass with the younger generation. Huge thank you to Randall @randall.reese and Fallbrook School of the Arts @fallbrookschoolofthearts for making the glass world more accessible to those of all ages, as well as helping us host an event to bring families together to start up this festive season.

From scoring and separating sheets of glass, using a variety of glass including dichroic sheets, pre-fused glass eyeballs, and frit; everyone was able to build the monster masterpiece of their dreams.

To say I had fun would be an understatement.

This workshop, “Kiln Monsters” was a special programming offered in conjunction with the glass exhibition I curated for @fallbrookartcenter!! Keep an eye out for more future events offered at @fallbrookschoolofthearts and another huge thank you to our sponsors of this workshop and the glass exhibition currently on view @fallbrookartcenter :

From Shattered to Reborn ✨

First, I want to thank everyone who commented on my previous post. Your kindness, support, and encouragement truly touched my heart.

As a coldworking artist, I often feel quite isolated here in the Netherlands. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one doing this in the entire country... maybe even Europe! 😄

Your messages made me feel part of a wonderful community, and I can't tell you how much that means to me. ❤️

Now, I want to share what happened next.

Instead of giving up on my shattered sculpture, I decided to give it another chance.

These photos and videos show the transformation, from the broken pieces through the process of reshaping and polishing, all the way to the final result.

And you know what? I actually think it's even more beautiful than the original! 🥹✨

Sometimes something beautiful can come out of something heartbreaking.

Thank you all for being part of this journey. ❤️

Started this eye as a custom quite some time ago and never finished it after going with a different color. Needed to free up some space so finished it up. This one is about 1.5" in size.

Yesterday, something terrifying happened in my studio.

I was in the very final stages of polishing a glass sculpture I've been working on for almost a year.

One wrong movement. That's all it took.

I accidentally positioned the glass incorrectly, and the sculpture got caught by the polishing disc. It tore through the disc, punched a hole in the backing plate, and was launched across the studio at an absolutely terrifying speed.

It flew toward the wall, bounced off the table, and shattered on the floor.

The sculpture weighs around 1 kg.

In those few seconds, I found myself shaking with fear, instinctively covering my head with my arms, terrified that the glass was going to hit me.

When everything finally stopped, I looked at the damage, turned everything off, and left the studio for the day.

Almost a year of work, gone in seconds.

But as heartbreaking as losing this piece is, I can't stop thinking about what could have happened if that kilogram of glass had hit me instead.

I don't even want to imagine where I would be right now.

Working with glass is something I absolutely love, but yesterday was a terrifying reminder of just how dangerous it can be.

One wrong movement. A split second. And everything can change.

I'm incredibly sad about losing this sculpture, but even more grateful that I'm here to tell the story.

Please stay safe in your studios. ❤️
