Kapellen. This luxurious cabin in the woods is a tribute to American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

A phenomenal, well-hidden island in the Antwerp Kempen region, where nature and architecture totally click.

The builder was inspired by one of Wright’s most famous designs: Fallingwater House. For a year, he studied the seasons, the position of the sun and the incidence of light on site.

The result is mind blowing: pared-down, horizontal lines and an assymetric layout, finished with exquisite natural materials.

The staircase to the kitchen was made of Norwegian stone, which continues all the way around the house, down to the swimming pool.Stone from Colorado adorns the wall in the office. Note the sophisticated pattern with bars in three different widths.

Wink to the 1950s in the ceilings with curved wooden slats, which reflect light beautifully - a feat of craftsmanship.

The leather wall also provides a lived-in feel and patina. Upstairs, you will find this leather on the floor - like a tatami. The striking stitching is the whip stitch, as used by native Americans.

The panoramic windows turn the landscape into an ever-changing tableau vivant.
Birds, squirrels and even deer get very close here. It is therefore logical that the original name of this place, the Tit’s Nest, was deliberately retained.

The botanical garden houses a beautiful mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, perfectly filtering the sunlight winter and summer. Each meticulously pruned tree has a story.

The foliage provides a nice view through to the adjacent Klein Schietveld nature reserve, without the intrusion. At the back, you can still find a small airstrip, once built by Leopold II.

Spacious fireplaces, a wealth of art, wondrous objects and atmospheric lighting.... This cabin feels like a natural history museum / cabinet of rarities / cabinet of curiosities / wunderkammer that you never tire of, with a new surprise behind every corner.

Focus and depth. Connect and disconnect. Nature and architecture. Wabi sabi or perfect imperfection.

An exceptional place to slow down, humbled by nature.

As in the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright the spirit of Japan is very much present in this house.
Furthermore, his travelling to Vietnam, also influenced the owner to bring in aspects from this region
of the world. Perfect imperfection. Wabi sabi. Symbols. Comfortably uncomfortable. Humble luxury.
Some of the elements that make this house what it is.

The house is surrounded by an “official” botanical garden. The trees are meticulously pruned after
a ‘corporate family meeting’ with the sons: which twig can go, which not? Inspiration for pruning
was gained in Japan. The parasol effect is aimed at. The intention is to create a depth view towards
the Klein Schietveld, airy, open and yet sheltered.

The natural stone of the house came from a stone quarry in Norway.
The house was built around the organic stone stairs in the kitchen. So the stone was there first, and
then the house.
In the office a wall is made out of Colorado sandstone. The wall was built layer by layer by hand, with
stone beams of three different heights. Unsurprisingly, the craftsmen only advanced 30 centimetres a
day, a feat of daring.

The owner brought a mix of exotic materials to the house. Leather as wallpaper, Wengé ceilings in the
kitchen, Macassar ebony for a tailor made cupboard, dark Emperador marble for the bathroom, a
staircase in Norwegian stone, a wall in Colorado sandstone. As in the Arts & Crafts period and
influenced by William Morris, handicraft and the artistic value of manual labor is much appreciated in
the establishment of this house.

The house is a true tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright.
The architecture features elements of the typical prairie style: horizontal lines, open and assymetric
layout, flat roofs, large windows, connected indoor and outdoor spaces, large chimneys, and lots of
natural materials like wood and stone. Restrained use of applied ornamentation but with the exploration
of motifs: one shape or plant form explored through furniture, wood carving, plaster, art glass and other
elements within a building. #erfgoed #immobilier #vastgoed #huiskopen #stijlvolwonen #woningmarkt #immodome #wooninspiratie #vastgoedmakelaar #luxuryproperty #verhuizen #immobilien #herenhuis #exclusiefwonen #immo #exclusiveliving #realestate #luxevastgoed #architectenwoning #onlinebinnekijken #realestateagent #tekoop #huizenjacht #erfgoedvlaanderen #huistekoop #binnenkijken #onroerendgoed #instapklaar #luxurylistings #woningtekoop

The house is fantastic to unwind and disconnect. Silence, nature, greenery, automatically turnes
you humble. All distractions fall away and you can purely focus on what is important.
Wright was so inspired by a belief in transcendentalism and the connection between nature and
humanity that he centered his work on it, calling it ‘organic architecture.’ Said Wright, “The word
applies to ‘living’ structure - a structure or concept wherein features or parts are so organized in
form and substance as to be, applied to purpose, integral. Everything that is ‘live’ is therefore
organic.” Wright emphasized this one principle throughout all his works, always tying a building’s
design to its location and its essential fit in nature.
Followers of transcendentalism place spirituality and intuition over reason, and they value the
sanctity of nature and self-reliance.
The mixed generation parties that the house has seen, gave a very special atmosphere, unique
even, with surprising conversations that would otherwise never take place. The kind of connection
can only take place in special surroundings with forcefull connection to nature. #erfgoed #immobilier #vastgoed #huiskopen #stijlvolwonen #woningmarkt #immodome #wooninspiratie #vastgoedmakelaar #luxuryproperty #verhuizen #immobilien #herenhuis #exclusiefwonen #immo #exclusiveliving #realestate #luxevastgoed #architectenwoning #onlinebinnekijken #realestateagent #tekoop #huizenjacht #erfgoedvlaanderen #huistekoop #binnenkijken #onroerendgoed #instapklaar #luxurylistings #woningtekoop
