🌟 “Burton danced superbly and so expertly. She was physically strong, composed, and calm, but also emotionally expressive, without ever overdoing it. Although I couldn’t always see the expressions on her face, I could definitely see them in her body, especially in the differences between the characters she played. Odette, dressed in white, was enchanting, lovely, and demure, while Odile, dressed in black, was more direct, fiery, and overtly seductive.” 🌟

🌟 “Simoens brought real emotional depth to the role and danced some incredibly difficult choreography with great skill and maturity. He had a commanding stage presence, filling the stage with his sweeping, circular solos, and was equally impressive as Burton’s partner…. For her to shine so brightly, she needed a strong partner who understood the music and could move her through space, spin her, and help her finish each movement perfectly in time. And Simoens was exactly that.” 🌟

🌟 “Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Swan Lake begins before the curtain even rises, with conductor Enrique Carreón-Robledo, whose wild, ecstatic conducting is a dance unto itself. He’s a maestro superstar, conjuring magic with his baton, letting the music run wild before taming it just in time for the curtain to rise and the dancing to begin.”

“The music conjured images and opened up new ways for me to imagine what was happening in the ballet. Having seen so much dance performed to recorded music, I realized how much I had taken live music for granted. There is something very real about sound waves traveling through space, reaching you as you watch, and affecting you emotionally. The music wasn’t just a

Thanks to Lilliana Watkins and Oregon ArtsWatch for featuring our current installation, "As Above so below" by Jacqueline Myers-Cho and Patricia Anders, in the context of Imperfecta's participation to Portland Textile Month.

This is the second year that Imperfecta Gallery is proudly part of PTXM -- while last year our contribution was minimal as our old gallery space was very petite, this round we participated with an art installation as well as display and a talk focused on southeast Asian textiles from the Martha Banyas collection.

PTXM brings to our wonderful city a plethora of fantastic events and opportunities to get up close and personal with the marvelous world of fiber and textile art and craft.

Thanks to the PTXM team for their hard work and to Caleb + Textile Hive for their dedication to textile art and preservation.

I learned a new word last night - palimpsest. In a broader sense, it refers to a surface used for writing, with traces of the old showing through. In this context, it refers to the multiple layers of ghost signs of the businesses that once occupied this building on NW 19th & Vaughn in Portland, Oregon.

1909-1913: Carman Mfg. Co.
1913-1920: Montgomery Ward & Co.
1921-1926: Oregon Transfer Co.
1926-1930: Storage & Transfer Co.
1968-1982: Western Warehouse

“Light Capsules” project by @craigwinslow is a historical restoration effort reviving ghost signs and hand-painted advertisements using non-destructive light projection, also known as augmented restoration. He’s done over 40 of these, each usually only lasting for a night except for the one in Astoria, OR that became permanent. It’s a cool way to preserve and document the past using modern techniques.
